Cranston Butchers was established in 1885 by father and son William and Stirling Cranston. On William's death in 1890, Stirling took over and ran the business for 36 years before his brother James took the helm in 1926. At the end of the Second World War, James' son William succeeded him.
William ran the business himself initially, until his son Connell joined him and following William's retirement in 1985, the business was once again passed down from father to son.Connell chose to take the business to another level in keeping with the times, introducing new products and flavours such as our pork and apple burgers and steak pie recipe which are both still huge customer favourites to this day.

When in today for the first time looking for something to BBQ. I had read some of the reviews which had said this place was pretty good. Picked up some lamb chops and a chicken (which the guy serving me kindly offered to joint) Had the chops tonight and oh my lord were they taisty. Looking forward to the chicken. Exceptional quality. Will definitely be coming back.

Been coming to this butcher for a year now. It is a small shop however their range is pretty good and the quality is fantastic. I've ordered a few items which they don't normally sell and always been really helpful when doing so. They are very good on helping you with what to pick for how you want to cook it. The guys are friendly to chat too. I've stopped buying supermarket meat and buy from these guys now.

My husband has been shopping at Cranstons for 10 years now - everything we buy is exceptionally well made, fresh & fantastic, however, & no idea how we've missed out over the years, yesterday he bought mutton pies - can I just say, there are pies, good pies, bad pies & CRANSTONS pies - NO WORDS to describe how FANTASTIC they tasted - well done to the team - the haute cuisine of the pie world

An absolutely superb example of how good a local butchers can be. This isn't our nearest butchers but we always make a bee line for their counter.
The staff are efficient, knowledgable and very friendly and the quality of the produce is excellent. The home made steak pie is probably one the best I've ever tasted!
