Chelmsford Bowling Club
New and experienced bowlers are also welcome every Friday evening at the clubhouse to meet members and find out about the club. Whatever your reason for visiting our website we offer you a warm welcome. Within these pages you will find the history of our club and a taste of the social aspects of membership. Of course you wont find out how friendly we are and how much fun we have without actually visiting us.
Services
The Chelmsford Bowling Club currently has approximately 125 members, men and ladies, and is based at Tower Gardens, Roxwell Road, on the outskirts of Chelmsford town centre. There is a free public car park a short walk away. We have two teams in the Chelmsford and District Association's leagues, four teams in the Central Midweek Bowling Leagues and one team in the Chelmer Ladies League.
It is as a result of the efforts of these few people that over the last 100 years many members have been able to participate in and enjoy the game of bowls at the Chelmsford Bowling Club. Probably the most influential person in proposing the formation of the Club was the Borough Surveyor Cuthbert Brown who was reported to come from the north of England.
The club is open everyday during the bowling season from around 11.00am until the last match or roll-up of the day, usually around sunset. During the winter the clubhouse opens around 7.00pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays Thursdays and Fridays. A carpet bowl league takes place during the evenings and the crib team play at home fortnightly.
We have registered the Club as a good cause with The Essex Lottery. This was created in 2017 by Essex County Council, and set up to support community projects in the local area. The Essex Lottery operates on the principle of raising money within the community for the community. It enables people to support the causes they care most about.

We don't go, but our neighbours do (they're retired) and I guess they must like it as they keep going back.
