Based in the Cotswolds, Freedom Aviation is the perfect place to learn to fly or continue your flying adventures if you already have a Private Pilot's Licence. Founded in 2006 by Sarah and Dave with one aircraft, Freedom Aviation has grown to a successful school and flying club with well-equipped Piper Warriors and American Champion Citabrias to meet all your training needs.
Our membership is growing every year as word gets around about our excellent instructional standards, great social scene, and friendly relaxed atmosphere. Our base at Cotswold Airport operates a FISO service and has over 2,000 metres of hard runway, as well as a grass runway, which makes it a great place to build your flying experience.

Services
Our Piper Warrior (PA28-161) aircraft are single-engine piston, four seat light aircraft, used for PPL training and touring. All our aircraft have modern paint schemes, well-maintained interiors, and are fitted with the same Garmin avionics kit (including Garmin G5 glass cockpit displays) to allow easy transition and continuity between aircraft.
Once you have experienced the freedom of flying in a light aircraft, you will be hooked for life. The Private Pilot's Licence (PPL) course will see you progress from your first flight, to your first solo, to flying around the local area on your own. Once you have achieved your licence, the sky really is the limit.
Have you ever wondered what it feels like to fly a plane? Enjoy a one-hour trial flight and you will have the opportunity to take control of the aircraft with your instructor whilst enjoying the views over the local area, including Avebury, Bath, the River Severn or even your house! This is the perfect gift idea for someone of any age but is also a great introduction for those who are considering a career in aviation.
At night, the thermals of the day which cause many an unwanted bump are gone, and the evening sky is often replaced with the smooth still air which all aviators dream of. Day trips to Europe or the Channel Islands are no longer cut short by fading light, and the view out of the window takes on a whole new magical appearance.
The British weather can be famously unpredictable, but by completing an Instrument Rating (Restricted), you will gain the skills you need to safely fly in instrument conditions. The IR(R) replaced the IMC Rating under EASA and allows pilots to maintain instrument flying skills within the UK without having to complete a costly and lengthy full Instrument Rating.

I cannot recommend enough! I did an hour building trip with Dave, I learnt more in those 4 days than I have in my PPL. I cannot wait to do more with them. The school is professional and so friendly, the… aircraft are absolutely fantastic, reliable and have wonderful avionics. We travelled from Jersey, Wales, west Scottish isles, all over north Scotland, Orkney Islands, Shetland Islands, Foula and back. Build about 30 hours, landed at some extremely challenging places in all weather. Learnt lots of great tips and my confidence is a 100 times better.
Thank you so much Freedom and I hope to

I booked my son a trial flight for his 12th birthday present. Laura, the instructor pitched her knowledge, questions and attitude perfectly for his age. The level of interaction and time in the air was way… above what I was expecting. He left one very happy boy. I can’t recommend freedom enough and they have almost certainly gained a future client.

I joined Freedom from another Flying School. Needing to get the written exams done, someone recommended Freedom’s ground schools. After the first one I switched to Freedom for the rest of my training, that’s how great they are! The ground schools are first rate and make learning easy and fun, the aircraft are first rate and very clean and tidy,… the instructors are incredible, and Sarah in the office is an absolute treasure. Nothing ever seems too much trouble and they frequently go out of their way to make things easy for the students and members. It’s a bit of a clich

I had a trail lesson with Freedom Aviation last week. Although I was a bit apprehensive about what to expect Sarah,Dave and there staff made me feel welcome as soon as I arrived. They explained what we would be doing for the flight and where we would be going. Dave took me up and his calm manner and expert knowledge really made it an enjoyable first flight. I'm looking forward to eventually starting on the road towards my PPL with Freedom and can't recommend them enough.
