Designed in the 1950's as a solution to inherent problems experienced using Dope-based systems, Ray Stits created a new system with DIY builders and restorers in mind. In the process of creating the Stits system (Poly-Fiber), he designed out the major problem areas of fabric covering at the time. Poly-Fiber will outlast any other covering system, and repairs are straight forward.
We run a one day course where you can learn about the whole Poly-Fiber process, from A to Z. For 165 including materials, you will cover a representative flying control, with us guiding you through the process. You can opt out of spraying if you wish, but if you're planning on spraying your own pride and joy then there's no better time to practice.
This business about recovering every few years comes from the old days of covering with cotton and linen. That's ancient history. Today, all covering is done with heat-shrunk polyester fabric. With proper application, today's fabric systems last 20 to 30 years, even outdoors. These are two-part polyurethane systems using automotive coatings with flex agents added to reduce cracking of the dried paint.
Firstly, Aircraft Coverings is more than just a shop. Advice is free, but if you would prefer not to take the task on yourself, we can do it for you. Whether it's a small repair, a modification, or a major restoration, talk to us. We also have engineering expertise here in the hangar to handle those areas that go beyond fabric covering.

I had a couple of weeks work experience at Aircraft Coverings Ltd in September, since I will be starting a degree in Aeronautical engineering and I wanted to gather some practical knowledge. I had a really fantastic time here especially thanks to Chris and Alex. They both have a wealth of experience and were always willing to help and teach. It was a very professional environment and I hope, when it comes to my career in future years, I'll be able to keep the same precision of work I was taught.
