Infamous for its stunning optical properties & timeless classic appearance, the Round Brilliant Diamond is definitely the most popular and well known diamond cuts. Round Brilliants make up over two thirds of all the diamonds sold worldwide. The predecessor of the Round Brilliant is the Old "European Cut" which was prevalent during the 1900s, and was a very popular diamond choice during the Victorian, Edwardian and Art Deco era.
The Princess Cut is a favourite choice for those seeking a modern elegant geometric shaped diamond. With strong clean lines and angles, combined with four sides of almost equal length, this rectangular diamond appears square to the naked eye.
The Princess Cut Diamond was first created in 1960 by A. Nagy of London & is an extremely popular choice for engagement rings and jewellery alike, with optical properties on par with that of Round Brilliant and Cushion Cut Diamonds. The shape and optical properties of the diamond allow imperfections to be masked due to the extra facets allowing more light to be dispersed and reflected.

The current day incarnation of the Oval Diamond was first showcased by World renowned diamond cutter and hall of fame jeweller Lazare Kaplan in Russia. An oval shaped diamond has 58 facets with an approximate 1.33 to 1.66 length to width ratio.
A major advantage of this and other elongated "fancies" is that this diamond shape will appear larger than other diamonds of a similar carat weight, and will also help shorter wider fingers appear more elongated. As with the Pear, Marquise, and Heart shapes there can be a "Bow Tie" effect, which is a black figure of 8 running north to south on the central area of the diamond.

The Marquise Cut dates back to 17th Century France, when it was commissioned personally by King Louis XV, known as Louis the Beloved, inspired by the lips of his mistress and muse Jean Antionette Poisson. Louis the Beloved was the great grandson of perhaps the most famous French Monarch and architect of Versailles, "The Sun King" Louis XIV.

We just bought a ring for our mum from Silk Road diamonds. Absolutely amazing from the beginning to the end! Great range of products, good value for money and excellent customer service. the guy has amazing knowledge and helped us in choosing the perfect gift for my mum. He was always available, answered all our annoying questions and was very easy to get in contact with. The quality of the whole package was superb from the exquisite ring to the elegant box that it came in. will defo recommend them to my family and friends and will definitely be buying from them again.
