Ted Coney's Family Portraits
Ted Coney's Family Portraits is a pop-up gallery which opens on Sunday afternoons and other times by appointment. A group of over forty original paintings, produced by artist, Ted Coney on the theme of family life and family relationships. Most of the oil paintings are on canvas, though there are some examples of painting on glass, wood and Ivorene.

You can now view a Virtual Tour on the theme of 'Simultaneity' in relation to some of Ted's work. Ted Coney studied Painting and Printmaking at Bath Academy of Art in the 1960s and has been making work about family life for forty five years. He was Head of Art and Design at Hills Road Sixth Form College, Cambridge for over thirty years and Head of Art at St Andrews College, running the Foundation Course for twelve years.

Ted Coney will give a guided tour of some of his original oil paintings on one of the themes shown below. If you book beforehand by phone or E-mail you will be informed which tours are on offer that day. A short film which introduces the work (surrounded by photographs of six generations of the Coney family).
It is essential to book your tour (as each tour can only take six people) beforehand to avoid disappointment. Please book your tour by 11am at the latest, on the day you hope to come. Parking : There is no parking on site (except for disabled - see Disabled Visitors for details) but there are car parks within walking distance of the house.
Although, Ted Coney's Family Portraits is mainly open on Sunday afternoons during the April - December season, it is also possible to book a visit at other times which are mutually convenient. Please ring or Email to discuss your requirements. It is possible to book a visit to Ted Coney's Family Portraits by school groups and to arrange a bespoke tour to suit your requirements.
Disabled visitors who require wheelchair access should also book the 2pm tour at least 24 hours in advance. You can now purchase a video virtual tour of some of Ted's paintings based upstairs on the tour. It is called 'Simultaneity' and can be viewed here. In the lecture, which lasts approximately one hour, Ted Coney uses slides of his work and short video clips to explain his ideas. His props include his 1931 Morris Minor, a box of very boring shells and the Phantom of the Opera. Ted Coney is a painter who has been exploring family relationships through the language of objects, places, words and numbers for over forty years.
