Services
A second driver or pilot car is necessary if the load exceeds 18.65 metres rigid length, 3.05 metres wide, or has a gross weigh exceeding 80,000kg, or has an overhang to rear in excess of 3.05 metres. Depending upon the nature of the abnormal load and the route chosen, it may be necessary to notify the Police forces and the County Councils involved, plus other bodies such as Railtrack or British Waterways.
The movement of abnormal loads in Ireland is not straight forward by any means. Each county has different rules and regulations governing the method of application for permits and the restrictions on movement. Many hauliers have been caught out transporting loads in Ireland themselves without the correct permits and flouting the movement times governing movement without realising what they were doing wrong.

The lorry in the picture below crashed into my car on the 9th of March. The driver did not leave any details even though my car was very badly damaged. I have sent a number of emails to this company without any help at all. I also called asked for some information to help get my car fixed but the woman kept hanging up when I asked to speak to her manager. Very unprofessional staff refusing to admit responsibility even though their were multiple witness at the scene.
