Services
It is now 47 years since Trevor Thorne moved to the Isle of Wight and set up Hillbans (Vectis) Ltd. The Company was formed to provide specialist damp proofing and timber treatment services and later expanded to offer wall tie replacement. In that time many changes have taken place, both in the industry and the market place.
Many people are unaware of the potential that exists below their properties, whether this takes the form of converting existing unused Basements or creating Basement accommodation as a way of extending the property. Hillbans have a range of methods and materials and extensive knowledge to assist you in your project from start to finish so why not unlock the potential that lies beneath your property.
Briefly, rising dampness is caused by the capillary draw of water from the ground beneath a structure through small gaps and fissures within the structure. Failed or breached damp-proof courses will no longer provide an effective barrier against the capillary draw and moisture rises through the wall and evaporates into the living space.
Our in-house plastering team are skilled in the application of the highly specialised plasters and materials involved in damp-proofing, Cellar tanking and structural waterproofing. We are also keen to promote the use of traditional building methods and materials where appropriate and we are actively using lime based mortars in re-pointing and re-plastering projects across the Island.
Hillbans are not only involved with waterproofing refurbished Basements, we also work closely with Designers and Specifiers to waterproof new new-build Basement and Cellar structures, lift shafts etc. BS8102:2009 Code of Practice for Protection of Below Ground Structures against water from the Ground states that almost all Basement structures are likely to be subjected to water pressure at some period during their life.

Report
Hillbans carried out extensive damp proofing in my cottage in Ryde in 2003.
It came with a 20 guarantee. Small patches of damp appeared on one wall
last winter and I call in Hillbans to inspect it. Damp patches were confirmed and the company agreed to carry out remedial work and redecorate . This was carried out over the following 2 weeks . The result is first class. 18 years into a 20 year guarantee and no suggestion of any
additional payment - that is what I call service.
