Ashby Family Law Practice
Scan and email to solicitors@aflp.co.uk evidence of your identity (details of the documents we need to see will be given when you telephone). We have been providing a quality family law service since 1999. If you need advice on: separation, divorce or dissolution, nuptial agreements, arrangements for children or the financial implications of family breakdown, we can help you.

The partners of AFLP are two of the most experienced family solicitors in Derby; we have the expertise (confirmed by our membership of the Law Society's Family Law Accreditation Scheme and specialist accreditation by Resolution) and we have a client-friendly approach, sensitive to the very personal nature of family problems.
Services
Separation, divorce and disputes over children are momentous and often traumatic events in people's lives. Their outcome can have profound consequences for the individuals concerned. It is therefore essential that expert legal advice is sought at an early stage.

As the field of family law (by which we mean the law relating to separation and divorce, dissolution of civil partnerships, children, financial issues - including maintenance and pensions - and protection from domestic violence) has grown in volume and complexity, it has become increasingly necessary for lawyers undertaking family work to specialise, rather than be general legal practitioners.
We provide an initial 30 minute consultation free of charge. This is normally sufficient to appraise ourselves of the situation and give general advice, including advice as to our costs*. Your case will be handled throughout by an experienced solicitor. We are in the centre of Derby: close to the library, next to the museum and opposite St. Werburgh's Church.
It is wise to consider your legal position before you start living together or while you are happily living together, rather than only in the event of things going wrong. Specifying the ownership of property between you: It often makes sense to clarify the shares in which existing and new property is owned, and set out what will happen if you separate.
If you and your partner separate, the relevant law depends on whether or not you are married. Maintenance: You may need maintenance payments from your spouse so that you can afford to support yourself and/or your children. If these payments can't be agreed, we can advise what you are legally entitled to, and how you can apply for payments.
Your spouse has committed adultery and you find it intolerable to continue to live with him/her. Your spouse has behaved in such a way that it would be unreasonable to expect you to continue living with him/her. You have been living apart from your spouse for two years or more and your spouse agrees to the divorce.

My experience of Ashby law was brilliant. David, my solicitor was straight talking about the outcome and didn't allow the costs to run up unnecessarily.
