This club was founded in 1887 and has a rich history. The first course was to the east of the town in Halbeath. It then moved to Ferryhills after only 3 years until 1929 when it moved to a James Braid course at Torrie. The final move to today's course at Pitfirrane was in 1953.
One of the earliest members of the club was Robert Lockhart who, with John Reid, introduced golf to the United States through the formation of the St Andrews Golf Club in New York. Both men came from Dunfermlne. Another famous son of Dunfermline, Andrew Carnegie, would also later become a member of the new American club.

The Dunfermline Golf Club, sometimes referred to as Pitfirrane Golf Club, is one of the best parkland courses in Fife. The club was founded in 1887 and has relocated three times since the early days. J.R. Stutt of Paisley designed the undulating and rather testing parkland course and there are no fewer than five par fives, the longest of which is the 528-yard 18th, Halkett's Hame.
The Clubhouse has been modernised to provide you with modern facilities without losing the charm and mystery of the main building. Dunfermline Golf Club invites you to Play in the Footsteps of Kings. Golf was played in Dunfermline by King James I (VI of Scotland) and Charles I as long ago as the 16th century.

Played the Open competition today and the course was in excellent condition. Not seen tees and greens in such good condition. General the 3 ball did not have a bad lie all day, something I can't say about my own course. Total chalk and cheese, will be playing the open again next year plus will look to book a 4 ball in August as the course was 10 out of 10. Hospitality and Professional were a credit to the members.

A fun and fair golf course. Greens were in excellent condition (September 12), fairways were generous and rough was lush. Premium on funding the fairways. All the par 3's were pleasing to the eye. Smalls targets but need a good chipping game and like 6 footers for par. Didn't go into the clubhouse so can't comment on that.
