What is Powder Coating? Powder coating is by far the youngest of the surface finishing techniques in common use today. It was first used in Australia about 1967. Powder coating is the technique of applying dry paint to a part. The final cured coating is the same as a 2-pack wet paint. In normal wet painting such as house paints, the solids are in suspension in a liquid carrier, which must evaporate before the solid paint coating is produced.
What is Stove Enamelling? Stove Enamelling is a wet-paint process that uses specialised stoving paints. The paint is applied by spraying before curing in an oven at a specific temperature and for a specific period of time. The result is a high quality, corrosion resistant, durable finish. Stove Enamelling is typically used on metal components and is available in a wide range of colours, gloss levels and other types of finish.
What is 2 Pack Wet Spray? This paint system was first used extensively during the 1970's and 1980's. The paint is extremely toxic. Isocyanate is a respiratory sensitiser so inhalation can affect breathing, with potentially fatal results. For this reason, this particular system is not normally suitable for application by DIY enthusiasts, as it requires special breathing equipment.
What is Shot Blasting? Shot blasting consists of attacking the surface of a material with one of many types of shots. Normally this is done to remove something on the surface such as scale, but it is also done sometimes to impart a particular surface to the object being shot blasted, such as the rolls used to make a 2D finish.
