Services
START Clinic is almost running like business as usual. Please make contact via email (bernie@startclinic.co.uk) and leave your mobile number as well if trying to make an appointment. If you are coming to an appointment, please wear a mask even if you have been vaccinated. I have had both vaccinations, but still taking universal precautions to prevent spreading it to you or getting it from you.
If you aren't sure which physio to go to, here are some of the reviews clients have left for me. Running the Edinburgh or London Marathon is a pretty daunting task for most athletes. Once training enters the stage where you are running over 30 miles in a week, you have about an 80% chance of getting an injury.
START has provided clinical placements for final year Physiotherapy students from Robert Gordon University and Queen Margaret University. We are not currently offering any free placement positions, but if you are a physiotherapy undergraduate and willing to pay for your placement, please write a detailed and thorough email to bernie@startclinic.co.uk.
START requires at least 12 hours notice of cancellation to avoid being charged for the session. As clients like to be seen promptly, it is only fair to give every opportunity to fill any empty appointments. If you fail to attend a booked appointment, please expect to be charged for the full session cost.

I am a medical student and as part of my clinical teaching I spent a day with Bernie, observing how he uses physiotherapy to help his patients recover and improve their quality of life.
Bernie assessed each patient he saw very well and identified the areas they were the most concerned about. He then followed this up by showing them exercises in the clinic which they could carry out at home to carry on improving their condition.
Every patient Bernie saw seemed a lot happier and more at ease by the end of the session and scheduled another session to come back and see him on!

My experience with Bernie has been absolutely wonderful. I tore my ACL and both inner and outer meniscus last October and Bernie really helped me strengthen my knee and learn exercises that will prevent the injury from happening again. Moreover, Bernie is super personable and fun and I found myself really enjoying our sessions and chatting to him about anything and everything. This made me to feel more comfortable, therefore allowing me push myself harder physically during the exercises. He is very smart, funny, and is very encouraging when I felt frustrated with my injury. Overall I could only

I came to Bernie when it became clear that my back issues were starting to make everyday activities harder and harder. I would clean my room for 30 minutes or pick things off the floor and would have to lay down for an hour afterwards. I was unsure of whether or not physiotherapy would even help, but after encouragement from my flatmate, I came to Bernie, and I don't know where I'd be if I hadn't! After working with Bernie for about 2 years, my back had completely changed. I no longer felt pain in my lower back while working out, cleaning, etc. He is knowledgeable, extremely professional, and a

I came to Bernie after I injured my knee playing Netball. As soon as I called him after I was injured, he came to pick me up from where I was to drive me to his practice. I was really sad about having hurt myself and he made me feel so much better with his Aussie accent, the jokes and the general kindness. Bernie was great in helping my recovery and getting back to working out, and even after my knee was all good and I didn't see him for appointments we stayed friends. Any other niggles I ever had, Bernie always responded quickly and brought my body back to being painless. Bernie's a great physio

I went to St. Andrews Rehabilitation Therapies three times a week for four months following a knee surgery. Bernie is extremely professional, knowledgeable and was very accommodating of my schedule. Having been let down by other physios in the town of St. Andrews I cannot recommend START highly enough. Top notch physio and top notch guy. 10/10.

After having struggled with ankle pain on and off for a year I booked myself a physio appointment with Bernie at START CLINIC. The hour long appointment consisted of a series of exercises and a short physio massage in his bright, spacious studio. I was sent home with strengthening activities to complete both indoors and out and about. Bernie was patient, quick to identify the issue and explained things in a way that made them easy to understand. It’s been a month since my appointment, I have kept up with my prescribed exercises and have had virtually no pain since - incredible progress in such

Bernie helped support me when I tore my hip labrum rowing at University. He organized an MRI and went as far as giving me rides around St Andrews when walking was difficult. He helped with rehabilitation and did an incredible job! We became good friends and my family rented his home for graduation week.
Bernie is an excellent physiotherapist and friend!

My 8yr old daughter Olivia had injured her hip joint and experienced pain over a long period if time, eventually resulting in her needing crutches. Unfortunately I felt that we didn't get anywhere with NHS support, their approach was not hands on, and they did little to help her understand her pain and what was happening in her body. We decided to look around and find someone she could see privately.
As soon as I spoke to Bernie and explained Olivia's problem he instantly got it. Having children of his own I could instantly tell he would have a fun, relaxed approach and on our first visit he made
