Rumoured to originally have been known as the Station Inn, the pub was first mentioned in street directories in 1867. Previously the building was the old Brunswick Police and Fire Station, so it has a very interesting past which the staff will happily tell you about over a pint or two!
According to legend the pub was renamed the Bow Street Runner in the 1960s, after the landlord decided he'd had enough of the customers asking the time of the next train! The Bow Street Runners were of course the the first recognised police force in London and were organised by the chief magistrate at Bow Street, near Covent Garden - hence the name was given.

We are just off the main thoroughfare between Hove and Brighton and only 50 metres from the city bus route which is a favoured form of transport around the city. The City Saver allows you to travel within the city centre all day for a very reasonable price. It is a 15 minute walk to the Conference Centre, Brighton Pier, Brighton Pavillion and the Lanes.

I stayed here last night after going to a concert in Brighton. I checked in about 4pm and the lady who showed me to my room was lovely. I bought a parking permit from her for £8 which covered me until the next morning and I was able to get a space right outside. The room was clean and cosy with a fridge and lovely croissants, cereals, milk and tea and coffee. The bed was super comfy and the shower was really nice. Another lady said goodbye to me as I left and wished me a pleasant day. I would definitely stay here again. Really good value for money and nice private entrance for guests

I really cannot recommend this place enough. From the time we arrived, we were made so welcome. The room has all you need and the bed is very comfortable. The location is perfect. Walking distance from most places and on the main bus route. The host and staff are fantastic. They will help you in any way that can. They are all so friendly. Will definitely come back. Thank you Sue for an amazing time.

Great local pub, always a friendly welcome from the excellent landlady and staff. It's a proper pub, no fruit machine, no juke box, no food, no TV, just well kept beer, a fine selection of competitively priced wines and a range of competitively priced spirits as well as the premium brand spirits & liqueurs.
