Swimming Without Stress
Let go and enjoy the support of water instead of struggling against it, on our intensive (but sensitive) one to one course in beautiful West Wales. Through hands on guidance using the Alexander Technique Ian and Cheryl will teach you to be happy underwater, to trust the water to support you and to get your feet back on the ground without panicking.

Floating freely and gliding with a relaxed neck are cornerstones of swimming without stress. Freedom of movement follows. What a great post, full of understanding. My previous attempts at learning to swim have been with instructors at the side of the pool, yelling instructions above the acoustic echo and carrying a pole for strugglers to attempt to cling to.
Services
We'll help you improve your relationship with the water by showing you how to let it support you. You'll have the pool to yourself and we'll be in the water with you, using our hands to guide and direct you through movements. Our lessons are 1:1 because we recognise that, while there are universal problems and difficulties for humans in water, we all have different degrees of fear, different levels of coordination, and our own learning pace.
Ian and Cheryl will help you improve your relationship with the water by seeing it as a source of support, not an obstacle to overcome. We'll work with you in the water, helping you to release unnecessary tension, guiding you through new movements, encouraging you to swim without stress by doing less.
Most people learning to swim, and too many swimmers, see the water as an obstacle to overcome. A lot of teaching approaches either reinforce this kind of thinking or don't do enough to help change it. The water is a wonderful source of support. The less we do in it/ to it, the more it helps us. This is quite simple but not always easy to see.
The water's a great place to reduce unnecessary tension, to release and expand, to let go. The Alexander Technique is very useful for people with any kind of difficulty in the water. Swimming problems almost always go back to balance and breathing. We help you become more at home in water by focusing on what's going on with the coordination of your head, neck and back.
Fees below are for your one to one lessons with Ian and Cheryl, or one to two, if you'd like to learn with a friend or partner. Email or call Ian to discuss available dates and a course which suits your needs. Ian will give you the cottage price and, after agreeing dates, you'll need to contact Croft Farm separately to finalize your cottage booking before we confirm booking of your course.

I ordered some full coverage swimwear from here in plus size - something that is very hard to find! As I live on a remote island I had some specific shipping requirements (had to also discuss with DHL) but the people at Swimming Without Stress were super helpful and accommodating. I received everything today - it all fits perfectly and is great quality. Really good customer service, really good items for sale = you can't go wrong :-D

Swimming was a complete mystery to me, despite trying several times over the years (I'm now 66). I have always been nervous in the water and an expert at sinking! Not any more ... I could only fit in 6 lessons with Cheryl and Ian but, at the end, I could actually float with my face totally submerged and, with Cheryl's and Ian's fantastic, calm and patient guidance, I learnt to trust the water to support me. I cannot recommend Swimming Without Stress highly enough - absolutely amazing! Added bonus is the excellent accommodation and beautiful countryside.

We had 8 sessions mostly with Ian - both my wife and I managed to swim further than we had ever done before. I think both Ian and Cheryl are very professional and really have a way to get the technique across. Well done to you both for getting us to achieve something we never had before.

" Each of us thought we were more or less competent swimmers, but the one-to- one lessons helped us become really confident in the water, not fighting it, but trusting it. The most remarkable part of the whole experience was that it was so relaxing, so while we were learning to swim better and more efficiently, we really were removing the stress. When we left we felt genuinely calmer and more relaxed."

My husband has learnt to trust the water and can now swim along on his back at ease with himself and feeling safe and in control of what happens after doing Ian and Cheryl's residential course. I would recommend them to anyone who has always wanted not to be afraid in the water. They work with you, at your speed and in a way that builds on tiny steps and details at each stage so that you don't feel rushed, embarassed or stressed. And instead of it all being over at the end of the course, it really is just the beginning of something new.

My Swimming Without Stress course was amazing. Ian and Cheryl are extremely patient and knowledgeable teachers. I learned lots and had a thoroughly enjoyable week. The location and accommodation is also first class. I can heartily recommend to non swimmers, anyone with a fear of water and also to swimmers who want to improve and increase their enjoyment of swimming. It is no small thing. My attitude to the water has been forever changed for the better.
