Ely Sailing Club
Ely Sailing Club is based at Roswell Pits in Ely, Cambridgeshire. We have over 35 acres of attractive fresh water with islands, trees and banks. The sailing is always interesting, challenging and fun. There is dry launching directly from jetties, and crews are able to sail without getting their feet wet.

We are a recognised Royal Yachting Association (RYA) training centre providing a range of sailing courses, powerboat courses and first aid tuition. We have also been awarded RYA Champion Club status for our race coaching. The club is family orientated and run by its members, for its members, with good value and enjoyment for all.
Services
Originally founded in 1946 by a group of local enthusiastic sailors, over the years, Ely Sailing Club has provided leisure and enjoyment to thousands of people. After after a request to The Earl Of Bedford (who owned 20,000 acres of fenland) from King Charles I to drain the area, Dutch engineer Cornelius Vermuyden was tasked with re-routing many of the Fenland's rivers.
Ely Sailing Club has wide variety of dinghies. These have been selected to be suitable for our waters and cover a wide range of crew abilities. Many of the dinghies are regularly renewed and all are kept in good condition. As an RYA club we are annually inspected and our fleet is kept well above the minimum standards.
Thursday evenings are when we run two relaxed races alongside social sailing. The courses are kept simple, the atmosphere is welcoming, and all beginners are encouraged to use Thursday Evenings to begin getting into racing. If you have little to no experience in racing, come along on a Thursday and give it a go!
Ely Sailing Club's Membership Secretary is happy to answer any queries regarding membership at the club. The contact address can be found on the Contact page. We are a family friendly club open to new members as well as experienced sailors. We offer many sailing and social events throughout the year to ensure all our members have a good time!
The club is a non-commercial organisation and has no staff. Therefore, one commitment of your membership is to help run the club itself. You will be allocated a duty up to 4 times a year to run or assist the activities on that day. The club is not able to function without you, and this is also a great opportunity to get to know other members much better.
