The Silk Mill Recording Studios are based within a grade II listed mill in Newcastle under Lyme, Staffordshire. The original Silk Mill was built in 1815 by Samuel Henshall and William Lester, and was the first of three silk mills built in the town.
At the mill's height it employed about 150 people, 100 of whom were under the age of 18, and 40 of whom were under the age of 12! They worked long 13 hour days from 6 in the morning until 7 in the evening.In 1844 the silk mill was converted into a steam corn mill, and was still occupied as the Albion Flour Mill at the time of the 1878 Ordnance Survey Map.

Our 30m2 tracking room hosts a pristine Neve VR36 console with Flying Faders, ATC monitors, Prism ADA-8XR's converters and a stunning rack of world class outboard. At 55m2, our beautiful oak floored live room and adjoining iso-booth comfortably accommodate up to 11 piece bands, with excellent lines of sight to the control room.
Built early 2015, our 30m2 Neve recording studio tracking room has been designed to the highest specifications. Acoustics were handled by Stephen 'Fritz' Pickford of e2Hz Audio who achieved a beautifully balanced and open sound from our ATC SCM50 monitors, in what was originally quite a challenging space.
Our SSL 4000 G+ mix room measures 17 m2 and is fully air conditioned. It has been acoustically designed and treated to provide an accurate listening environment, ensuring mixes that translate consistently away from the studio. Main monitoring is provided courtesy of ATC SCM50 Pros, with PMC TB2S AII mkii and Yamaha NS10's for referencing.
The beautiful oak floored live room at The Silk Mill Recording Studio measures approximately 40 m2 and along with the adjoining 15 m2 iso-booth comfortably accommodates up to 11 piece bands. The space has been acoustically designed by Stephen 'Fritz' Pickford of eHz Ltd and features a live end / dead end design.
