During the consultation we will take your medical history, in addition to the physical assessment. In most cases treatment will not be provided at your first appointment, and you will be invited back at a later date. If your toe is infected it may necessary for us to give you or arrange a course of antibiotics prior to any surgery.
Diabetes can reduce the circulation and sensation in your feet. Awareness of changes in temperature, pain and touch may all be diminished. As a result, foot problems may occur without your awareness of them - this means if you injure your foot you may not be aware of it. Get in the habit of checking your feet every day for cuts, abrasions, grazes, inflammation, or swelling.
Bio-mechanics can be described as the study of how living things move, within podiatry, bio-mechanics is the study of how humans move with a specific interest in how we walk, run and stand. When we perform any kind of movement, from climbing a mountain to clicking a mouse; what takes place is an intricate cascade of bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, tendons and nerves all working together to carry out our desires and impulses.
Most people will have heard of acupuncture at some time or another, acupuncture is the practice of inserting needles into specific points on the body in order to restore balance, or to make us feel better. Acupuncture is historically thought to have originated in China many thousand years ago and came about through the combination of a belief system and how energy flowed through the universe and through us.
