Services
We have been grinding crankshafts for over 30 years and our engineers have huge experience with all types of crank from motorbikes to marine engines. The crankshaft is rotating between approximately 1000 - 8000 RPM and over many cycles, the crankshaft journals will become worn. Regular oil changes will help prevent this wear.
We offer a cylinder head skimming service here in portsmouth. We recommend that the cylinder head is skimmed when the head gasket is replace to ensure you have the perfect surface for the head gasket to seal. We also calculate the minimum amount that we can take off. There is a limit that should be observed and we have to consider piston protrusion.
We can hone your cylinder block so that the correct oil film can be obtained on the cylinders. This oil film is need to stop unnecssary wear to the piston rings and to create a seal. If the bore is dirty or worn this will cause oil to pass the rings and reduce performance and allow oil into the combustion area.
We can test you camshafts to see if they are still within tolerance and see look for any potential camshaft issues. We can supply & fit new camshafts to your engine if they need replacing due to wear or other engine damage. The Camshafts are responsible for valve timing and are critical to the safe running of your engine.
We can determine which main bearings your engine will require. We can source oversized bearings if the crank is to be ground. The main bearings sit on the inline journals of the crankshaft. Main bearings commonly have a oil groove through the centre and oil holes. This is not true for all engine. Some main bearings have a flanged pair meaning the engine does not require thrust washers.
