I have been in practice full time in Plymouth since graduating from the British School of Osteopathy in 1981. I work part time for the NHS in their Acute Back Pain Service. I have participated in research being a member of the local NCOR research hub and have been involved in nationwide trials, notably the UK BEAM trial and recently the MOCAM trial.
I have an interest in treating dancers and have helped Stars of the music industry, theatre, Hollywood and winners of both Strictly Come Dancing and Dancing on Ice. I believe in a Holistic approach and have been a member of The International College of Applied Kinesiology since 1992. The trouble with back pain is that it can do more than just give you a pain in the back.

When an Osteopath examines you he will watch the way your body moves. Then feel the individual movement of your joints and how they coordinate together. In the spine for example each vertebra should move roughly the same as its next door neighbour so that the stresses are evenly distributed and not focusing in one place due to a lack of movement or too much.
Mechanical problems are the simplest and make up the majority. The spinal vertebrae have two small guiding joints between each pair of vertebrae. These are the size of our knuckle joints but are flat sliding joints. They are commonly strained in the low back by a combined bending and twisting movement.
The spinal vertebrae have two small guiding joints between each pair of vertebrae. These are the size of our knuckle joints but are flat sliding joints. They can be strained in the neck by twisting the head quickly or working in confined spaces, keeping the head in an awkward position for too long and very commonly in road traffic accidents.
There are many possible injuries to the shoulder. However there are a few which make up the majority of the problems we see. The commonest is simply an over work of the shoulder often caused by unusual activity like gardening or decorating. When we tend to over use our shoulders in a very repetitive way.
The knee is one of the most complicated joints in the body as well as having the greatest amount of muscle to control a single joint. It takes a great deal of stress in its working life being involved in walking, running, climbing and crouching to name only a few. The most common problem seen with the knee is stains/tears of the ligaments which are important to control the knee movement.

Julian Doddrell has kept me mobile. He is without doubt not only kind and helpful, but extremely good at what he does. My spine is twisted curved and fused. Mr D makes sure that pain is kept to a minimum. I have been a patient for may years and would not consider going to anyone else. You are in a very safe pair of hand with this wonderful man.

I have been 'rebuilt' by Julian a number of times over the years. He is an excellent osteopath, he will find the problem quickly and accurately and often resolves it with one visit. He has many years of experience and is a true professional. I have recommended him to many of my friends all of whom have been impressed with the results they see after a visit.
