Crawley Mariners Yacht Club
The Friendliest Dinghy Sailing Club in Sussex? We like to think so. The Mariners have a well deserved reputation for being a very friendly club with a relaxed atmosphere, so if you're interested in sailing, do feel free to come and visit us for a chat. Organised events take place on most weekends from March to December, or take advantage of a free trial sail on one of our Open days.

Sailing dinghies come in all shapes and sizes (over 100 different Classes at last count). No matter what your weight, shape, age or level of fitness, there will be a class of boat to suit your needs. For members that do not own a boat the Club has a number of boats that can be used. Many thanks for your interest in Crawley Mariners Yacht Club.
Services
Many thanks for your interest in Crawley Mariners Yacht Club. We like to think we are very friendly club and welcome new members who are experienced dinghy sailors or novices wishing to learn to sail. If you are an inexperienced sailor we can teach you to sail on one of our RYA courses usually held in early summer.
Thanks to its relatively sheltered inland location and its shallow depth throughout, our home base at Hedgecourt Lake is an excellent venue at which to develop your sailing skills as you move on from the beginner stage. The trees that fringe most sides of the lake mean that the winds we experience here are often variable in direction and strength.
One 30 minute race starting at 13:30 following each Adult Saturday Club day. These races are aimed at encouraging more members to take up racing. They follow on from Adult Saturday Club so that instructors may buddy up with those wanting to race, series winning helms are not permitted to helm in this series.
Once you have learnt the basics of dinghy sailing and perhaps invested in your first boat you really have three choices as to how you spend your time on the water: racing, cruising or pottering around. Pottering around can of course be a lot of fun, but eventually many of us feel the need to do our sailing with more of a purpose.
It's rare to find a lake based club with such an extensive cruising programme. At the beginning the club was quite nomadic. With no club storage, members had to keep their boats at home on trailers. This had the advantage that the boats could be easily be taken to sailing venues other than a home lake.

My grandson has been a member of this club for about 3 years. They are a very friendly and helpful club especially to people who have had no sailing experience.

Lovely place to learn how to sail. A great youth section who compete as part of the West Sussex team at national level. If you're thinking about taking up sailing then look no further! ⛵⛵⛵

Very friendly club with lots of people to help and advise. The Junior Saturday club is a great way for kids to learn and enjoy dingy sailing. It's also very popular! You'ill be expected to muck in, from getting boats in and out of the water to making tea.
