Legend has it that when the Warwick section of The Grand Union Canal was being built in the early 1800s the Tavern on Crompton Street was charging a mere four pennies for a cup of coffee and a tot of rum. Other inns were charging an "outrageous" six pennies! It has had a few other names over its lifetime; The Paul Pry, The Warwick Tavern and The Old Fourpenny Shop.

This popular pub is located only a few minutes from the centre, Warwick Castle and Warwick Racecourse and is a Georgian building dating back to the early 19th century. The pub has a great friendly atmosphere with a local feel and is a single, split-level room, enhanced by the absence of machines and loud music, so a lovely place to relax and chat with friends.

Come join all the excitement going on down at the racecourse and if you fancy a wee flutter, then who knows you may be in for a nice surprise. You can try some tasty dishes from The Hand & Flowers, The Churchill Arms and Atul Kochhar's restaurants. Eating or drinking here is always a pleasure. The staff are friendly and have a bit of banter, but nothing is too much trouble. The ale selection is excellent and the beers are well kept. The food is always tasty, with good portions and a reasonable price point.
4 stars only due to limited parking, although that's not really the pub's fault.

Seriously good service in this quiet mid-to-low-priced pub/hotel. Wide selection of ales, some extremely reasonably priced. Comfortable, clean rooms with good heating for cold nights, and pleasant walks nearby, though close to the centre of Warwick. Traditional pub food came in generous portions. Parking on nearby streets allows two hours' getaway time after restrictions begin at 8am. Checking-in and checking-out were fuss free.

Visited here for an evening meal while on a long weekend in Warwick. At first glance Fourpenny appears to be just a busy pub but there is a lovely clean restaurant at the rear of the building. All the food and wine was great as was the service by the lady and gentleman on duty. Will definitely be back.

Absolutely fab-u-lous!!!! We loved staying here. Very welcoming & accommodating staff. Spotlessly clean. Lots of nice touches like their own labelled bottles of water in the rooms which are re-cycleable. Great choice of real ales to try. Just a very nice experience & would thoroughly recommend it as it's a little gem.

As busy parents, the double courtyard room we stayed in was a perfect little pod of luxury for 24 hours. Very clean, tidy, and well appointed, lovely breakfast, and helpful staff. The only down side was that parking wasn't available as expected due to an event at the racecourse, but it's very easy to unload without pressure and then park about ten minutes away. Not cheap, but good value, particularly given the central location. Just need another excuse to stay!

Very nice stay. Alex who greeted us very helpful and obliging. Sorted out our parking at nearby racecourse and bags etc. Pub / eating area nice and spacious. Had fish share board for lunch which would recommend. Room a little on the small side but then again was advertised as this so have no reason to moan.
Spotlessly clean was ideal for our one night in Warwick being on door step for everything.

Tldr; Fantastic hotel! Highly recommend for families, and friends or couples.
I travelled with 2 friends and stayed in Room 8, which has 2 large beds. The room was clean, comfortable and nicely decorated. The coffee machine was well stocked, with extra cartridges available at the bar on request. The shower room was sparkling clean. The room also had air con as the room as on the top floor and the windows did not open (which was not a problem for us).
All the staff were very friendly and it is clear that everything has been very thought through.
