Services
We are a family run, professional tree care company based in Saffron Walden and cover Essex, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Suffolk and North Hertfordshire. We work in both the commercial and domestic sectors, with excellent customer service and communication being at the forefront of what we do whilst achieving the highest standard of quality and professionalism.
We provide the full range of tree services you'd expect, from Tree Surgery, Pruning and Planting to hedge cutting and garden clearance. We also carry out Surveys and Tree Reports. All our services are professionally quoted and the work is carried out by our fully qualified team members. Find out more below.
Our tree work can often produce large amounts of waste wood when we clear the site after a project. We transport this back to our works where it is sorted into "good wood" for domestic firewood and log burners and wood for chipping or sawdust. Waste wood is also delivered to our site from other tree surgeons for disposal as they have no means of storage.
Trees add significant value to property and our environment and, as with any other living organism, there is a right and a wrong way to do it. Felling and removal isn't the only solution - we would encourage our customers to consider pruning as a way to manage their trees and to retain the value they bring.
Most conifers don't grow back but many broadleaved trees will attempt to regrow and will send up shoots. If left untreated, after only a couple of seasons, customers will gain an unsightly area of dense regrowth. There are a number of solutions - including treating the cut stump with herbicide to prevent regrowth to mechanically destroying the stump using a stump grinder.

Booked Mercer Tree Services to give our ageing apple and Rowan trees some TLC as well as trim and tidy a Cypress.
Guys came on time for both consultation and to do the work.
Very friendly and polite. Asked our preferences several times during the work.
Extremely tidy, other than beautiful trees, you would not know they had been.
Could not recommend Mercer Tree Services Ltd enough.

Mercer Tree Services have completed tree felling, trimming and stump removal work for us, and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. Because they've taken the time study how trees "work", they advise on the best course of action, rather than just turning up and attacking your trees with a chainsaw. Staff are professional, knowledgeable and take precautions to keep you and your property safe while they work, and tidy up the site when they're finished.

Mercer Tree Services were carrying out a tree felling in a neighbour's garden. They damaged our fence panel cracking and splintering some slats which are now deteriorating. When my husband immediately after seeing the damage pointed this out to them they said they would repair it and it would be fine, we trusted that they would have made good their promise, given that they acknowledged they had caused the damage. After they left we discovered that the damage was left and no repair had been carried out whatsoever, sadly, this review is a warning to others, if you see them working next to your property
