Children progress as rapidly as they are able, moving to the next level as soon as they are ready; skills and awards are constantly assessed and distance awards up to 100m tested every 8 weeks. AJ learnt to swim at Shirley Swimming Pool from a young age and went on to become a competitive swimmer for Southampton Dolphins, soon reaching the national level. Shortly after leaving Southampton Dolphins AJ realised how much she missed the pool and Dave offered to train her up as an assistant swimming teacher at the age of 14, giving her shifts on Saturday mornings.
Adult Lane Swim is a session for over 16's and is open to all abilities of swimmer. The pool is split into two, lengthways, and one lane is for 'Walking Talking and Slow Swimming' and the other is for swimming. Public swimming sessions are open to all. Under 16's must be accompanied by an adult, and the pool is split into shallow and deep sections for recreational use of the pool.

From the first gentle splash to confident swimmer, Shirley Swimming Pool provides an excellent environment to learn to swim. Our unique swim centre provides a class for every age and ability, gently encouraging progression through the learning stages.
Behind reception at the Pool is a height chart that shows the current water depth of the Small Teaching Pool. Once a child can stand safely in the pool, they can join the Toddlers class that we call "Under 5's". This is normally between two years nine months and three years. The pool is warm, enclosed and private but parents can easily deliver and collect from the pool edge.
Even the most nervous adult beginners have overcome their fear of water at Shirley Pool. The private shallow areas and sympathetic teachers help ease the dread that many adults feel near water. Stroke technique and deep water confidence classes are held early evenings and day times. Private, one on one lessons are available by arrangement.

This is a friendly pool for all ages. They always help children get better or even learn all the basics of swimming and some tricks like under water handstands or roly - polys. There is a 1 meter part of the pool, and a deeper which they will swim in when they get better. They also dive or jump there (when conformable). There is a small pool for younger children or those who are just learning to swim. The changing rooms are a bit wet even if you would dry your feet. I hope you join and like it! ✨🤽♀️🏊♀️🏊♂️🏊

My daughters Felicity and Gabriella have been swimming on a Saturday and Sunday with Sam and AJ. They both really enjoy their swimming lessons and have come on so well. All staff are very friendly and approachable, it’s a lovely school to be part of. Nothing is ever too much trouble, well done Shirley Pool.

My son, Fox, has his swimming lessons on Thursday with AJ and he loves it! It’s amazing to see how quickly his confidence has grown in the water. AJ is incredibly patient and Fox loves her. When he goes into the pool and see’s her he will always wriggle with excitement. The reception team are also extremely helpful and welcoming. Couldn’t recommend Shirley Swimming Pool enough.

Me and my daughter Rosa have been going to shirley swimming school since she was 6 weeks old and I couldn't recommend it more. We attend Wednesdays with Philomena but if for any reason we can't make it they allow us to make up the lesson at another date. Philomena is a wonderful teacher, who knows how to get the best out of the lessons. My daughter is so confident in the water and I owe it all to the school

The pool and teaching staff are great, I highly recommend them for lessons, but maybe bring your own food and drink to have while you wait because the staff of the bus don’t seem to have picked up that all their customers have 30 minutes to order, have whatever they bought, and get back inside to pick up kids. And that’s on a day when they haven’t somehow run out of coffee for the coffee shop.

Back to basics for a pool but with basics done really well.
Lady on reception (Natalie I think) was excellent and really shows how to do good customer service well.
Baby pool is nice and small and well heated. Sessions are booked in advance so not too busy. Toys to play with as well.
Adult pool looked decent for lane swimming.
Changing rooms for men was compact but good enough.

It's a small pool, ideal for swimming lessons / kids / people who find large pools overwhelming or who are gaining confidence in their swimming. It's shallow at both ends with a deep section in the middle, again ideal for learners or unconfident swimmers. I attended an aquafit class here which was taking place at one end whilst there was a lesson for adult beginners at the other - great use of the space! Staff were friendly & helpful, the changing room was totally communal (no cubicles) although there were toilets inside the changing area, so I guess you could use that? Another plus point is you

I allows had a good experience with the stuff but that's ended there, my son stopped going to the swimming lesson November 2020 when the lock down started and as a payment has been taken from my bank account so I cancelled the direct depot as there is no lesson anyway for the lock down.
Yesterday 07-05-21 my wife received a call from the swimming pool asking her to pay £98!!! they said its payments for the last couple months!? My wife told them no one is going to the swimming pool,they said it doesn't matter as they didn't receive cancellation forum... EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE CLOSED FOR
