Following the enormous success of our sale of Westminster City Council enamel street signs in March this year, where the iconic Abbey Road made an astounding 30,000 hammer, Catherine Southon are delighted to be offering a further collection of London street signs. This new batch promises to be bigger and better with famous landmarks of the capital including Theatreland Drury Lane est.
Our success in sourcing some excellent ceramics came early on, when we launched our first auction and sold a Wedgewood dinner service with a design by Eric Ravillious for 1,200 (plus premium). This was followed by a sale of some extensive collections of Royal Worcester, including a private collection which sold for over 7,000 (plus premium), and a single early 18th century Worcester cream boat which commanded 2,000 at auction (plus premium).
This private collection was accompanied by works of art by Sonia Delauney, John Piper, Joan Miro and a signed print of 'Mother and Child' by Henry Moore which sold for 2,600. Subsequent sales have included the Richard Channing collection of 20th century design where furniture by Charles Eames, glass by Lalique and ceramics by Keith Murray and Martins Brothers by were commanding high prices.
