The Betty Wivell Academy was established in 1964. To date over 1000 boys and girls have studied with us. When we started, it was ballet lessons in Miss Wivell's sitting room. Now, it's ballet, tap, modern, jazz, drama and singing in over 10 rooms spanned over 4 venues, seven days a week. A total of 75 regular classes, not counting additional tuition and rehearsal time.
We are a performing arts school and aim to put on a small production each year. Every five years, the entire school puts on a production at a local theatre. We also undertake a number of outside performances throughout the year, including school fetes, entertainment for local retirement homes, charity events, summer schools, festivals, and choreography competitions.

Services
We train our students weekly in RAD Ballet, ISTD Modern, Tap, Jazz, Contemporary, LAMDA Drama and Singing. Our teachers are working professionals who have direct experience of the industry and are passionate about training our students to the best of their ability. BWA provides the highest dance training in a variety of styles including Acro.
The BWA is an ISTD approved Dance Centre and is currently delivering The ISTD Diploma in Dance Education teaching qualification in Modern theatre, Tap and Ballet. Regular lessons help to grow your teaching knowledge and creative skills, whilst working with a group of teachers with the same ambitions and desire to become the best dance teacher.
The aim of the Charity is to assist former pupils of the BWA to obtain further tuition at a professional level, enabling them to achieve a career in the theatre. We decided to start this up when Government grants for the Arts were so dramatically cut and, therefore, it became nearly impossible to receive a grant for this kind of education.
