Chinese philosophy believes our body displays a landscape that, when balanced, is healthy, yet if imbalanced, the person become ill. Acupuncture works by balancing the whole body, so it begins to work in harmony and thus make the patient well again. Chinese Medicine looks at the body as a whole, incorporating the physical, emotional and psychological factors.

It also takes into account external factors, such as lifestyle, diet and your environment. By understanding these factors, acupuncturists can gain a greater understanding of the individual pattern of illness in a patient and from this, can use acupuncture, herbs and massage, alongside lifestyle advice to reverse any imbalances and bring a patient back to good health.

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese treatment dating back over 3000 years, which works on restoring the body's energy 'channels' by removing blocked Qi (pronounced 'Chee' and meaning 'energy') which causes illness or disease. Using extremely fine needles to access these channels via 'access' or 'acupuncture points', treatments alleviate any blockages and ensures the energy flows freely again and the patient is restored to good health.
Chinese Medicine is more than three thousand years old, yet it has continued to evolve and remain of relevance to today. Chinese philosophy believes each and every person displays a landscape, that when balanced, is healthy. If there is an imbalance, the person becomes ill.

Traditional Chinese Medicine describes a complex system of "channels" and their connecting vessels as the distribution system that carries Qi (pronounced Chee and meaning 'energy'), blood and fluids around the body.It is tempting to think of these channels in the same way we think of blood vessels, arteries, veins and capillaries that carry blood around the body.
Qi is the 'Vital Energy' that makes us a living breathing organism. Qi is not just inside of us. It is everywhere. We take it from the air we breathe and the food we eat and this is why what we EAT is so important! In order to remain healthy it is therefore essential we need lots of good quality Qi to be flowing through all of our organs.
When you come to see me I will make a complete diagnosis which will involve asking you a lot of questions about your condition, both physical and emotional symptoms and your medical history. Your digestion, diet, sleep patterns and lifestyle. I will also examine your tongue and take your wrist pulses - (which are a more detailed indicator of the condition of the various organs than the single pulse taken in Western medicine).
