Services
We are a diversified farm in the village of Winsley nestled on the Wiltshire-Somerset border. Our intention is to create a place inspired by sustainability, community and the pursuit of a more balanced lifestyle. Read our story below as told by Tom Bowles, fifth generation farmer (pictured below right).
Our farm shop provides an opportunity for our community to find the many wonderful local food producers around them. We source direct from many of the local farmers and producers around us to make sure the supply chain is short and fully traceable. We often showcase our brilliant suppliers throughout the year with tasters and meet the producer events with an aim to really bring you closer to your food!
Our story began over five generations ago and we have been farming livestock in the village of Winsley, in Wiltshire ever since. Today we are home to a suckler herd of native-breed grass-fed beef cattle. In 2008, in an effort to return great quality local meat to our local market we opened our farm shop and butchers and have not looked back since.
At Hartley, our focus is on cooking fresh, wholesome food that champions the seasons and the local farmers, growers and makers behind the ingredients. Being on a farm, we also love to celebrate our surroundings, whether that be eating in The Barn, our converted farm building-come cafe, or grabbing something on the go from The Cabin and enjoying the garden and paddock.
Our farm is a 125 acre, family-run farm in the village of Winsley on the Wiltshire-Somerset border. The land has been farmed by our family for over five generations. Our farm produces organic vegetables and salads and is home to a native-breed suckler beef herd producing grass-fed beef for our farm shop.

Just a flying first visit to pick up a few items for a gift we make up for a relative. Nice place, well stocked and very friendly staff. We'll certainly call in again and have a better look around

Love this place but wait times are shocking. Just ordered 2 sandwiches and chilli from the takeaway cafe and had to stand waiting for half an hour for it. This place would be fantastic if they had more staff and told people how long the wait times are. Really disappointed

I saw some Ox Tongue in the Farm Shop which I wanted pickled so I could put some pressed Ox Tongue in the freezer for Boxing Day. The very friendly Butchery kindly spent ten days salting it for me at no extra charge. I used Delia's online recipe and after a nice outing for my ancient meat press I have a perfect pressed tongue in the freezer.
Great produce and service. Thank you.

Good coffee, great cakes and friendly people. I wanted to buy rosemary from the store but they had sold out. One of the staff saw me looking a bit lost and asked if she could help... I told her I needed some rosemary and she went to cut some from the gardens and brought it in to me. And didn't charge for it!

Nice tea and chocolate brownie. Farm shop definitely on the pricey side eg Gem Beer £2.99 a bottle , double the price changed in Tesco. Still, nice place for a cuppa

Starting to get concerned that Hartley Farm claims to be regenerative but its supply chain at least still supports the big industrial agriculture that is killing the planet. I have watched 'Kiss the Ground' on Netflix and really think that Hartley can do much more. Here are a few suggestions: 1) Buy organic ingredients like flour for your cafe, organic suppliers don't damage the planet the way traditional industrial agriculture does. 2) Stock local organic produce in your shop, as an example I regularly see apples from NZ that aren't organic. How is this regenerative and sustainable? 3) Challenge

We loved this farm shop and cafe! Our children were completed enthralled with the playground, tractor inside the cafe, and kids menu. The food was delicious and even though we had to wait for a table (in itself a good sign!), we would return again and again.

A pretty tasty breakfast, comparable to something you would find in London. Their ethos is admirable; sourcing the best locally sourced produce, which means excellent quality and ethical. This shows in their food. A modern restaurant with plenty on offer. The coffee was spot on, food superb and staff super friendly. All for a decent price and, if you stay at The Farm Camp (a 3min drive down the road) you get 10% off too. A win win! Worth a visit for sure. There are a few plugs dotted around, step free access and toilets round the back.
