Bristol Childcare is a family run business with three nurseries across Bristol: The Court House in Knowle, Mornington House in Clifton and The Priory in Filton. We have over 48 years of running nurseries and our core values remain the same. Our ethos is small, homely and flexible and we achieve this through our focus on child-led care.
Our nurseries feel like home from home with cosy rooms and the welcoming smell of meals cooked on the premises using homegrown fruit and veg; we promote life skills using traditional arts and crafts; we choose natural resources, encourage a love of the outdoors and champion a focus on the traditional ways of doing things to reduce our environmental impact.

Bristol Childcare is a family run business. It started in 1971 when Bruce and Sue Farr opened Mornington House, one of the first day nurseries in Bristol. Over forty years later Bruce and Sue are still involved in the nurseries along with their daughter Saffia who is now Managing Director of Bristol Childcare.
At The Priory we know about good childcare because we're a well-established nursery which has been running for over 30 years. It's a small, cosy and homely environment with a babyroom, toddler room, two's room and pre-school. We open at 7.30am and close at 6pm with days planned around a routine of lunch, snack, singing and story times.
It's really important that we all have a wider awareness of online safety. Before we allow a child to use an electronic device we should be thinking, why are we doing this, is this for our benefit or our child? If they use the device, what might our child be exposed to, could we be engaging with our child in another way, what might they be missing out on by being on this device at this time?
This year we are celebrating that we have been operating for 50 years! Some of our staff have been with us for over 30 and 20 years and this is something to celebrate and wonderfully represents our family ethos. Sue Farr (top left in above photo), one of the founders, looks back on 50 years of running nurseries in Bristol.
Bristol Childcare has always been part of my life. My parents opened Mornington House in 1971, one of the first nurseries in Bristol, and my unusual name was chosen from one of the first children to attend because my parents loved it so much. This picture is me at Mornington House. The ethos my parents started out with - small, homely and flexible - is still at the heart of what we do today.

My daughter Marigold, has been at Mornington in the baby room for the past 8 months. She has LOVED every minute of it. The ladies are brilliant with the kids and so caring as Marigold loves a cuddle. Her speech and mobility have come on wonders during her time there also. They do a lot of messy play with the kids, which is so much fun for them. The food is cooked on site and there isn't a day when Marry doesn't eat it all and have seconds! I really cant fault the nursery or the staff. All very caring and helpful. Its a shame we are having to leave. Marry will miss them all.
