My name is Nigel Kettle. I am a Registered Osteopath offering a wide range of therapies from my clinic in Mayfield East Sussex, close to Tunbridge Wells, Crowborough and Heathfield. I also work from other clinics in Reigate and Epsom in Surrey. I specialize in the treatment and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal pain, peripheral joint complaints and sports injuries.
Services
Osteopaths are trained to recognise and treat many causes of pain. Osteopathy is an established system of diagnosis and manual treatment which is recognised by the British Medical Association as a discrete clinical discipline. In 1993, Osteopathy became the first major complementary health care profession to be accorded statutory recognition under the Osteopaths Act.
I was born in 1962 and initially trained at the 'Raworth Centre' in Dorking as a 'Complementary Health Practitioner', achieving my diploma in 1990. To begin with, I specialised in sports massage and other remedial therapies, working alongside Osteopaths in their practices.

This exposure to hands-on Osteopathy, seeing its scope and effectiveness in the treatment of a wide variety of musculoskeletal and other conditions inspired me to train as an Osteopath.Osteopath training is demanding and lengthy. Recognised qualifications are only available from Osteopathic educational institutions accredited by the General Osteopathic Council.
Osteopaths treat a wide range of patients and conditions, not just backs! At my clinic, I always endeavour to take a holistic approach and consider every patient's posture, general health and lifestyle in order to provide the most effective course of treatment. Most back pains result from mechanical disturbances of the spine - postural strains, joint derangements and spinal disc injuries.
As part of your Osteopathic treatment, the clinic may use a range of therapies. These therapies are also available as independent treatments, please request this option when booking. This treatment is not just for the 'sports person' as anyone can benefit from sports and remedial massage, including people in physically demanding and sedentary jobs.
You do not need a referral from a GP to see an Osteopath. The majority of Osteopaths work in private practice so you may choose to approach a practitioner directly and pay directly for consultations and treatment. Typically three or four treatment sessions are needed, though this will vary according to the severity of the problem.
