Services
We are a registered charity established in 1991 in Kirkcaldy and now operate from Kirkcaldy, Glenrothes and Dunfermline. The service supplies electric scooters and powered and manual equipment to people with mobility difficulties for use in the shopping malls and around the town centres. These can be taken out with the normal daily boundaries, used for short term immobility and taken on holiday if required.
Our services are available to all and you do not have to be registered disabled to use our equipment. We provide daily loan of powered and manual equipment for use to access town centre shopping and facilities. Free car parking is available in the Esplanade Car Park in Kirkcaldy and the multi storey car park in Glenrothes for customers using the service.
Our Board of Directors, all of whom are volunteers have overall responsibility for the service. We are always looking to strengthen our Board and would like to hear from you if you are interested in this position. We are currently seeking people with financial experience. We welcome volunteers from all walks of life and currently have ten volunteers helping to run the service.
The maximum capacities range from 22 stone (standard seat) to 35 stone (extra wide seat). All our equipment is regularly serviced by an independent contractor who regulates the speed of powered equipment for your health and safety. The scooters are all fitted with front baskets and either a box or bag on the rear allowing light shopping to be carried.
Each service has a number of manual wheelchairs available for long term hire. The chair can be kept for up to 4 weeks and then reviewed weekly to accommodate any extensions which are dependent on new advance bookings or service requirements. The chairs are generally small wheel or large wheel (with self propel facility) and range from 17" (18 stone) wide to 22" (21 stone) wide seats.
