Since Kirkham Henry Performing Arts Centre was formed in 1989, when Angela Kirkham and Jennie Henry decided to combine their individual teaching talents, our contribution to the Arts in Ryedale and the North Yorkshire area has been immense.
Supported by a team of brilliant teaching staff with over 100 years combined experience, we have gained a reputation for excellence in all aspects of the Performing Arts and are immensely proud of our students' achievements over the years, not just those that have continued into the performing arts industry, but all those students who, with the discipline and dedication learnt throughout their time at Kirkham Henry, have gone on to excellent careers outside of the performing arts.

Services
Together with Jennie Henry, Angela opened Kirkham Henry Performing Arts in 1989. The rest is history! She began her training at the age of 3 in Middlesbrough and by the age of 12 had won the English Junior Ballet Championship and successfully passed her Royal Academy of Dance Intermediate examination - being the youngest in the country to do so at the time.
The facilities at Kirkham Henry are first class and include a good sized performance space with spectator area, communal area with fully accessible toilet, and full private changing facilities for use of our students. Our dance studios all have harlequin covered sprung floors.
All of the studios at Kirkham Henry Performing Arts Centre are available for hire, either for exercise classes, parent and toddler groups, adult classes, meetings, or rehearsals.Includes a full library of scripts and books for audition pieces, for the use of our students.

Our activities are defined as to provide benefit to people of all ages, abilities and social groups within the local community of Ryedale and North Yorkshire in general, as a Not For Profit organisation. To promote, maintain, improve and advance the education of the community of Ryedale and North Yorkshire in the arts of dance, mime, drama, music and all aspects of the performing arts through classes, workshops and performances.
Below are a few examples of the classes we have to offer at Kirkham Henry, either as an examination syllabus or totally free style to the teacher/ choreographer. We update the styles regularly as teachers and guest teachers are committed to their continuous professional development. Free-Style Jazz Dance - Street, Commercial, Lyrical, Theatre Craft, Hip Hop, Musical Theatre and modern dance.
Here you will find pictures and information relating to our class and examination uniform for boys and girls. We also have a fantastic range of warm ups and uniform with our Kirkham Henry Logo on. All of our class and examination uniforms can be purchased from the dance shop attached to our dance studios Fusion Dancewear or online dancewear outlets such as Dance Direct and Move Dancewear.

Both our girls have attended Kirkham Henry since they were 4 and 3 yrs old,they both love it.
The teachers are friendly and approachable.
During Lockdown they have provided a lifeline to many young children and young adults who needed a bit of normality in their lives with their zoom classes.
I would highly recommend as dance studio.

My 2 daughters aged 5 and 12 attend Kirkham Henry performing arts and both love it! My eldest has been attending since the age of 3 and has never looked back! The dance school is professional yet fun and provides a wide range of lessons, the teachers are all
very experienced which shows in the high exam results and amazing performances during showcases etc! I couldn’t recommend the school enough!

Kirkham Henry is a fabulous performing arts school. Having had associations with it before I became a parent I knew it was the place I would be most happy sending my daughter. She attended another dance school local to us but i decided it wasn’t right for us and we now travel from York to attend classes.
All the teachers genuinely care about every child and the KH Family is very special.

My daughter has been at Kirkham Henry since she was 4..and now 13. She loves her time at Kirkham Henry. Great place for her to show her skills and make friends aswell as great opportunities to do shows and enter exams. Lovely friendly teachers who communicate well with parents and students.

My daughter has enjoyed dance lessons from the age of 4 and now aged 15 continues to. The dance teachers are dedicated to their profession, taking time to ensure their students learn in a safe and encouraging setting. The showcases every 2 or more years must need heaps of energy and time, but they pull them off every time!

My little boy has been going here for lessons since he was 3. As well as thoroughly enjoying watching him grow and enjoy himself through the lessons, I really like how much Kirkham Henry care about the children and young people they work with. They are hugely passionate about the performing arts, but also about the welfare and wellbeing of those they teach.

Despite living in York I am more than happy to travel to Kirkham Henry for my daughter to attend classes. We tried other dance schools prior to Kirkham Henry but they weren’t suitable. I’ve known Miss Angela and some of the teachers for a long time having lived locally and performed in productions with them. The teachers are all lovely, committed… and go above and beyond to provide first class tuition. I am proud to be the current chair of the Friends of Kirkham Henry to support the hard work that goes into running a fantastic school. The KH family is something very special

My daughter has been going to this wonderful place since she was two and a half. She loves it and we love how she loves it. Our lives seem to be revolving around her attendance there more and more so. She is now just seven. We completely recommend this performing arts school to all as it's incredibly high standards are taught right from the… get go. Total professionalism and an excellence attitude from all tutors we have met. Words can express how great this place is and what it does - one has to go to a performance to feel and see wht is an amazing creative world. Much gratitude for all
