Services
As well as coaching top international sailors, he is the UKLA (the UK Laser class association) Training Officer and writes for Yachts and Yachting, Seahorse and The Daily Sail. 1. Train with Jon one to one: Jon sails with you (crewed boat) or against you (single handed boat) to help improve body kinetics, wave technique, typically spending the day addressing boat speed or boat handling issues.
The central premise of the book, Training to Win, is to make the most out of every hour you have when training. This usually means working on your weakest areas or on those which are most important to improve. Jon comes to your club and answers your questions (so come prepared).
The issues affecting racing at a small inland club with mainly slow single handed dinghies are very different from that of a large inland club with high performance asymmetric boats, a Yacht Club which races keelboats, or a club which sails on the sea with a strong cat fleet.Talks can be made to the desired length, usually with a short break approximately half way through.

Jon has been an international coach since 2000 and he became the UKLA Training Officer in 2006. He wrote his first book Be Your Own Sailing Coach in 2008 and followed this up with Be Your Own Tactics Coach in 2011. Be Your Own Sailing Coach was republished in 2015 as Coach Yourself to Win. 2001, 2002, 2003 Head Coach for North Zone Topper Squad implemented all five weekends with a theme and handouts.
All the regional training weekends start at 10:00 (apart from the Grafham residential weekend which starts at 11:00 as people come from far and wide to attend this). This means rigged but unchanged. So if you are super speedy at rigging your boat you can arrive at 9:45, or if you are really slow you probably need to arrive at 7:45!
The UKLA use the Qualifiers as a means of qualification for international events as it is the fairest and therefore best means of deciding the team. There is no selection process and therefore, absolutely no chance of any favouritism. Being part of an RYA squad or on RYA funding does not mean you get an automatic place.
