It is a real treat to visit Castleton in Berry season - the aroma of strawberries meets you at the door. Strawberries, Raspberries, Blueberries and Cherries are all picked daily at the farm and delivered to the shop for you to take home - you won't get fresher than that! Also worth a try is the Castleton Berrylicious Range.
Castleton's home-made Strawberry Glazing Jelly is the perfect topping to your fruit tarts, cheesecakes and much more. Made on our family farm in Scotland using our berries and only natural ingredients this tasty jelly offers 100% Real Fruit Taste. Whilst topping hundreds of strawberry tarts for our caf, we realised there was a gap in the market for a glaze made with real fruit.
We guarantee that every meal served at Castleton is homemade and showcases the best of local or British produce. Every cake is made from scratch using Scottish flour, local free-range eggs and often with fruit from our farm when in season. Our baker, Leanne and her team make everything with a passion and great attention to detail.
For every 1 you spend at Castleton you earn 3p which can be redeemed against your shopping at any time. Points can be collected from purchases in the shop, caf and online. You will also receive Exclusive Castleton Rewards offers by email every month and be the first to hear of any news, events and special offers.
To access us from North or South, please use the Fordoun Junction then follow the yellow signs. We are approx 1.5 miles from the village of Fordoun. Currently six people from two households can dine either in our indoors restaurant, or our airy and spacious new conservatory. There are also new attractions on offer, with our new ice cream machine and play equipment.

Very disappointed to see the prices have increased by a fair bit recently - no longer 'cafe price'.
Having visited today we found the food substandard compared with their usual quality which is even more disappointing knowing that it's more expensive! The fish and chips was too greasy, the macaroni cheese portion was small and the kids Halloween food seemed stale as if it had been preprepared the day before.
The service was poor also, again not up to the usual standards.

Would normally give Castleton 5 stars, but yesterday was a bit disappointing. 3 adults 1 child eating. The child meal came first and they were finished before the adults were served. The meals for 2 adults were fine, but mine wasn't so good. The chips were great, but the fish was overcooked and the peas looked as if they had been nuked into next year!!
I did comment to the waitress, but didn't complain as I felt we had waited long enough for our meal.

Been going for years and this year just highlighted how good the food is in the Café. Peppered Steak Baguette was gorgeously juicy with medium fired steak cuts in the roll paired with caramelised onions. Not forgetting the rich, smooth & creamy peppercorn sauce to drizzle over (and enough leftover to dip the side of chips served with!).
The shop too is brilliant, farm produce from around the area and beyond as well as the homegrown Castleton berries, the results of Ross Mitchell's genius. Probably the finest berries Scotland has to offer. Coming here in the summer is a must. A+
