We are now open for one-to-one and group riding lessons. Beginner and lead rein lessons are also possible with some restrictions, please ring to discuss details of this. Riders should ideally have their own hat, clean gloves, boots, and whip if you think you may use one, and will need to follow our social distancing guidelines as detailed HERE.
Lessons will be available within specific time slots (please contact the riding school for information on this) and should be booked 48 hours in advance in order for us to be able to adhere to social distancing guidelines while accommodating both our riding school customers and our liveries. We are interested in claiming part of the Grantham Canal path and if you have ever ridden on this route prior to 1990 then we would appreciate your help.

Services
Bassingfield Riding School, conveniently situated close to Nottingham, is a family run business with over 60 years of experience. It was established in 1954 by Shirley Thomas (nee Owen) who continues to play a significant role in the business today. Shirley's interest in horses started from a young age.
All our facilities are available to use for horse riding lessons including the jumping paddocks, cross-country course and games equipment. Short hacks may be incorporated into your lesson if you wish. For more information about hacking with Bassingfield Riding School & Livery please visit the hacking page here.
Jumping can be incorporated into your riding lessons from the start. You will begin by walking over poles and practicing your jumping position and you will eventually learn to see a stride and set your horse up correctly into a fence. During the summer, your riding instructor may incorporate our cross country, showjumping or working hunter fences into your lesson.
We have a wide range of horses and ponies suitable for all riders, ranging from sensible beginners' horses to ex-BSJA showjumpers and top show horses. Our competition horses are available for use on the riding school by the best riders and the majority of our riding school horses are schooled up to around medium level dressage and maintained at this level by Helen (Shirley's daughter).
If there is anything else that you require for your horse then please ask as we are likely to be able to provide it. Livery fees vary depending on many different factors including horse size and which services you require. The winter rate for 24 hour turnout is slightly higher than the summer rate to cover the costs of hay provision in the fields.

AMAZING !!!!! As a person aged 60 who was very anxious around horses and took up riding not long before lock down, I was very dubios about giving it another go! Booked a lesson with Helen and she made me feel really relaxed. She has a lovely manner extremely professional and clearly loved her job and her horses. Horses are extreemely well cared for and a very tidy and well run stables and yard. Totally Covid compliant.
I was so impressed I went back again the following day. Unfortunately I live in Bristol but will be booking in again when I return to Nottingham Thank you Helen so much for a fantastic

I've been to a number of riding schools in the US and the UK. I'm a beginner, middle-aged guy. The one recent one to the east of Nottingham taught me such incorrect techniques, I found them at odds with what the US taught me, where I'd learnt some Western. But then I found Helen, she helped iron out those 'wrongs' and I progressed rapidly in areas I'd been wanting to perfect for almost a year - the trot, balance etc She's so understanding of me and wanted to know about my history, life and is always curious about what I want to achieve. I've never found a teacher that's so encouraging, caring and

Bassingfield is an excellent quality Riding school. If you read no further then that is essentially the salient point.
I was lucky enough to have had the privilege of growing up around horses and the horse world which set me in excellent stead for my future career.
It was twenty years ago when I first discovered this gem of a school, with its calm and beautiful surroundings, you could be mistaken for thinking you were deep in the countryside rather than on the outskirts of Nottingham. Margaret, was the matriarch and installed a ‘can do’ and ‘no nonsense’ attitude in everyone she welcomed

The location is wonderful & the people there are lovely. My daughter, Grace attends the riding school & has learned so much & enjoys it more than anything. Horses are her life. She lives & breaths horses. … This is her favourite place in the world to be. The “Own your Own Pony Day’s” are also such a brilliant way for youngsters to learn more about what it takes to have a horse of their own. Again, Grace loves these days & has no problem getting dirt under her nails. Just a lovely place.

I've been riding here for over 10 years and I keep coming back (even though I now live 70 miles away) because of the quality and variety of the horses, the brilliant instructors and the hugely knowledgeable and lovely owner. The horses thankfully, dont follow the bottom in front; instead, I've learnt they all have their differences and to ride accordingly. I've introduced both my mum and my niece who both love it here too. I wouldn't go anywhere else!

My daughter had her first lesson as part of the half pony day earlier this week. She spent the afternoon with Zoe and rode Toffee. She came away having LOVED it and I was impressed at what she came away having learnt, she had a fantastic time and she's already booked in for another session! I see this turning into an expensive hobby!!

They were so rude they didn't greet me like I should have been greeted I got a 'who's this' and 'I'm busy' and a 'well yes yes' I honestly couldn't believe i, as a customer was being spoken to in that manner and I was generally interested in looking Into private lessons! The way she was talking was as in she was too good for me and I possibly couldn't go to her riding school! I am disgusted and will never be going there! I would recommend Broad View Riding School with kind and respectful staff.
