We carry out Asbestos Identification checks in Sussex, Kent, Surrey and Hampshire. If you suspect something contains Asbestos we can take samples and provide a one page report. The mere mention of the word Asbestos can cause panic amongst home owners, workers and staff, so please feel free to get in touch.
Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral which grows within mesomorphic rock. There are six #Asbestos types, split into two categories. The commercially used types of Asbestos are Chrysotile (white), Amosite (brown) and Crocidolite (blue). If you're responsible for maintenance of non-domestic premises, you have a 'duty to manage' the asbestos in them, as set out in the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012.

In practice the changes are fairly limited. They mean that some types of non-licensed work with asbestos now have additional requirements, i.e. notification of work, medical surveillance and record keeping. All other requirements remain unchanged. If existing asbestos containing materials are in good condition and are not likely to be damaged, they may be left in place; their condition monitored and managed to ensure they are not disturbed.
Any worker liable to disturb asbestos while performing their normal everyday work is required to be trained. Every employer must ensure that adequate information, instruction and training is given to those employees who are liable to be exposed to asbestos during the course of their work.
All workers who are liable to disturb asbestos during their normal work should be trained so that they can recognise asbestos containing materials and know what to do if they come across them. The training needs to be appropriate for the work and the roles undertaken by individuals. Please note: There are other occupations who are liable to disturb asbestos in addition to those listed in the above table.
