Forterra
From our 18 manufacturing sites our 1,750 employees create the bricks, blocks, precast concrete, paving and many other vital products and services that are Keeping Britain Building, enabling the development of thriving communities and infrastructure. Our expertise lies in building products made from clay and concrete, and our portfolio contains some of the most recognised and respected names in the construction industry.

Some of them, such as London Brick and Butterley, date back to the 19th century while others, such as Ecostock and Formpave, are far more recent; but whether historic or modern, traditional or cutting edge, they all have the needs of the 21st century at core.
Services
Wherever you are in Britain, you won't be far from a building with a Forterra brick, block or bespoke clay or concrete product somewhere in its fabric. Our history of manufacturing building products began in the 19th century; we kept Britain building right through the 20th century; and we continue to be at the forefront of building innovation in the 21st century so you, and future generations, can continue to build history.
The new facility will incorporate state-of-the-art processes to deliver market-leading efficiency and sustainability credentials that minimise the environmental impact of both the plant and its products. At the heart of the plant's efficiency will be two new kilns using cutting-edge technology to reduce energy consumption and emissions.
Our business has a significant footprint, whether this is measured through the number of people we employ, the volume of raw materials we consume, the emissions from our sites, or simply the lives we touch through the properties built from our products.

If we are to continue to manufacture building products needed to create homes, communities and infrastructure for the generations to come, we recognise that we must attain the highest standards of stewardship for our material resources, care for our planet, and have the support of our employees and wider society.Three pillars: people, planet and products, guide us in these aims.

While the Thermalite brand might have been around for 70 years or so, a programme of continual research and development ensures it meets the needs of the modern construction industry. A closed micro-cellular structure, featuring tiny pockets of trapped air, gives Thermalite its distinctive features: high thermal and sound insulation, lightness for handling, high compressive strength, and fire and moisture resistance.
