Services
Welcome to our on line learning resource Transformations: Politics and Protest in County Down 1900-1920s. This resource has been designed for pupils and teachers at Key Stage 3 to explore a selection of objects, documents and photographs from Down County Museum's collection which relate to the period from 1900 to the 1920s, a period of great change in County Down, Ireland and the world.
During the Second World War, a farm in Millisle, Co Down provided a place of safety for Jewish children who had fled from the Nazis. Children and others faced the trauma of leaving family and home. Often rescued by what became known as the Kindertransport, some children came to a farm in Millisle, leased by the Belfast Jewish community.

I've waited for over 5 months for a response from this place on a simple request for information.. waste of time and effort contacting them in the first place 🙉🙈🙊

This was my first visit to this museum, and I can say that I will be returning. I was absolutely amazed by everything about the place. We were greeted by a young lady called Karen, who made us very welcomed and who went out of her way to explain the history of the museum, which increased our interest in finding out more. We did not see it all, which is another good reason for returning. I would highly recommend this museum to anyone. It also confirms that some of our brightest gems for visitation are to be found outside the main cities. Thank you for this wonderful experience and here's to the

The museum greatly surpassed expectations. It was clean with an open environment and lots of exhibitions packed into a small footprint. Staff were incredibly friendly and were more than happy to talk about the museum and offered guidance to get the the exhibitions quickly as I’d arrived close to closing time. The museum is free to enter, I really enjoyed the visit it was definitely not what I was expecting!

Now here is a little treasure...
Sometimes you stumble upon a place that is friendly and welcoming. Sometimes you find a place that is informative and interesting. Occasionally you will find something that is free....
This place is all three!
A great use of the former gaol, the museum is one of the finest local museums I have visited. I am not a great fan of waxworks but they have excellent ones here.
A visit here is a must for anybody passing ... and it's free (or was when I went there).

Wonderful tour Mary very informative on arrival - we loved the tour - we're on holiday from Sydney Australia and the four us were gobsmacked at the exhibition . The cafe was great - Frances and the manager were brilliant . Beautiful views during lunch . Colm even sourced some brochures and brought them out to us in way to The Cathedral .
