Slieve na Mon is a nursing and social care centre for the frail elderly and elderly mentally infirm. Conveniently located four and a half miles from Omagh on the main Gortin Road, the centre has the attractive design of a traditional Irish "Clachan" or gathering of cottages; the nostalgic appearance of which could be familiar and inviting to older people from the area.
The internal and external environment has been adapted and modified over the past two years to reflect current practice and thinking in dementia friendly design, given the changes, updates and progress in the research in evidence base for design principles: in essence, extensive and subtle changes have resulted in Slieve na Mon being awarded the Gold Standard Accreditation by the University of Stirling using their stringent design audit tool.
