Sugar Boat: a relaxed, informal neighbourhood bistro offering great food at great value in a warm & welcoming environment. Our courtyard at the rear is a perfect sun trap (when it shines!) and is partially covered with heaters making it a fab place to enjoy al fresco dining or a drink.
The terrace at the front is the perfect spot to people watch, enjoy a casual beer or a wee dram or go all in and have lunch or dinner (there's heaters too!). Looking for a post-work drink then pull up a stool at the bar and perhaps snack on a homemade sausage roll or crunch some pork crackling. We've even got our own wine shop for you to explore and take your newly-discovered bottles home!.

We have eaten here on numerous occasions and have always enjoyed the food.We attempted lunch yesterday but gave up after 20 minutes as
although we were given a coffee relatively quickly, there were no menus and it was obvious that we would be in the restaurant for ages. The waiter (who could certainly do with more training) made no attempt to tell us what the problem and was too busy cleaning up a dropped bottle of wine and nursing a cut finger. We we paid for our coffee and left.
We had lunch at the Sugar Boat with friends in September 2021 and the service was poor and slow. The Manager on duty

Booked a table for two online as only visiting the area on holiday.
We arrived early to have a couple of drinks, sat outside until our table was ready. We both ordered the Sunday roast. A little dismayed when food arrived to find that is does not come with much / or Any substantial vegetables. Had a small spoon full of carrot juice and about a dessert spoon full of shredded cabbage. x3 Very small roast potatoes, yorkshire pudding and two very small slices of beef. The food was very nice what we had, the staff and service was outstanding, credit to them. Just wish there was some proper Veg on the

Really nice bar/cafe, food was brilliant, I really enjoyed my meal. Compliments to the chef, really felt like my main was deserving of being on the great British menu or Master chef or similar a brilliant combination of flavour and texture. Pudding also very nice. Also good attentive waiting staff, I am completely kicking myself for forgetting to leave a tip, what can I say, it’s been a long time since I was in a restaurant b/c of lockdown and such!

Absolutely loved this place! The food was very good. I personally enjoyed burrata most of all. What a great idea to serve it with honey and cabbage! Unexpectedly good combination. Sourdough was also sooo good! I’d prefer grilled cabbage to be a bit less greasy, otherwise all was amazing. Definitely highly recommended.

Simple menu but executed to a very high standard. The trotters and bacon was a generous starter but not over facing, a great example of moules frites and an exceptional Clafoutis! Wide ranging wine and beer range with locally sourced Overtone Brewery. This place is a must return to try the rest of the menu.

Amazing food and drinks in a trendy but comfortable atmosphere. To start our party had drinks around the giant marble bar, the bartenders made amazing cocktails and were flexible with making drinks to taste. Mixologist quality without the mixologist attitude. Dinner was the same sort of experience, excellent food and service with a low key, unpretentious presentation. Would love to return some day.
