Osteopathy is a recognised and established method of diagnosis to identify and treat dysfunction or problems in the musculo-skeletal system. Osteopaths aim to return your body to health through manual therapy, and promote continuing health by considering how your lifestyle might influence the musculo-skeletal system.
Stretching and tissue release may relax and help improve overall function in your muscles. Deep tissue massage aligns muscle fibres, improves circulation as well as reducing inflammation and improving healing. MET (muscle energy technique) is particularly subtle and may ease stiffness and contribute to better stability and the range of motion in a joint.
Medical, or modern, acupuncture is an adaptation of Chinese acupuncture, which, instead of traditional models to diagnose conditions uses the principles of evidence-based medicine and knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathology to identify conditions suited to treatment with needles to relieve pain.
Sports massage is more than a treatment. It involves an evaluation of how you are using your body for your chosen activity. Your complaint may indicate a weakness where muscle balance can be skewed by activities such as golf, running, cycling, walking etc. This creates a pattern in your body which your everyday jobs and lives also contribute to.
Joanna Figg-Latham M.ost., D.O. registered Osteopath and Medical Acupuncturist, qualified with 1st class masters' degree at the European School of Osteopathy. Joanna treats a range of musculo-skeletal conditions and strives to ensure her practise is evidence-informed. Her prize-winning research into evidence-based treatment of low back pain led her to address an international research conference in Brazil in 2014.
