My wife, Janice and I started our antiques business in 1990 after many years of collecting, starting at the antique fairs before moving into a premises in Lodsworth. After 2 years there we took the plunge and moved into a larger premises at Swan House in Petworth and over the 18 years gradually took over the remaining adjoining showrooms, making us one of the largest antique showrooms in the country.
On dark winter evenings it is not easy to imagine life without electricity, but if we cast our minds back to the grand houses of the past we might visualise the beautiful chandeliers. Nicholas Sprimont, silversmith, was primarily responsible for the foundation and success of the Chelsea factory. Sprimont was a second generation Huguenot whose parents came from the Low Countries.
Aalto, alvar (1898 - 1976) A Finnish architect and furniture designer. His work during the 1920's and 1930's had an enormous impact on the 20th Century design. His work was mass produced but remained highly original, by clean, simple lines and curves. He used a selection of materials such as moulded plywood and tubular steel.
