Janet Lomas School Of Dancing
Our school's training ensures that each student receives professional, technical tuition of the highest standard. It is a place where children with a passion for dance can flourish with focussed training. Every student, whether attending our classes for recreation or pre-professional training, is encouraged to achieve their personal best with the drive to succeed.

It is our aim that our students leave every class with a sense of determination, confidence and most importantly, a love of dance.
Services
The Janet Lomas School of Dancing is an established classical ballet school offering structured training for boys and girls, aged four to 18 - from beginners through to pre-professional level. In 2017, the school expanded and began offering Silver Swans(R) adult ballet classes for the over 55s. Recognised for its high-quality tuition, students travel to the school from across Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Cheshire.
Since lockdown, we have been offering live online dance classes on Zoom for both our children's department and Silver Swans(R). All online classes are open to boys and girls, ages 4-18 years. Our live online dance classes mean that classes can be held with real-time corrections and feedback, taught by experienced, fully qualified teachers.
Our Beginners classes are structured lessons where students learn the foundations of ballet training. By ensuring the foundations of dance have been correctly taught at a young age, this means that the student can continue to flourish as a dancer and will not have to spend time learning basic techniques or re-learning incorrect techniques later on.
Non-syllabus ballet classes secure excellent classical ballet technique, artistry and musicality while providing students with a well-rounded ballet education.

We offer multiple non-syllabus ballet classes each week, catering for different levels of experience - in the Junior classes, this ranges from the first introductions of a formal ballet class structure, through to more advanced classes that prepare for transition into our Senior department.Non-syllabus ballet classes are attended by both the more serious dance student and those who wish to attend once a week as a hobby.
At the Janet Lomas School of Dancing, we are highly experienced in training boys in classical ballet. We have students who travel not just from Bury, but all across the Greater Manchester and Lancashire area to receive our specialist training. We are proud that many of our boys have progressed on to wonderful careers as professional dancers.

Having tried a couple of other online providers, this school is the best IMO for older learners, whether you have danced previously or not. Class content is clearly explained and correction given to the class in a positive and friendly way. Options are given within each exercise to accommodate different physical and dancing abilities. The music is beautiful, jazz, pop and classical. Johanna changes the settings we use and the repertoire each term so there is always something new to try! Highly recommended. Excellent well-trained teacher.

It was a great day when I took a leap of faith and joined the silver swans programme under the excellent guidance of Johanna. I look forward to each session, the bonus being via the internet, so it did not preclude my participation as I do not live in the UK. Each session is well prepared and explained to suit all levels and experiences of dance, including exploring dances from some of our greatest ballets. If you are unsure give it a go, meeting others with your passion and realising you can either experience ballet for the first time or relive your own young self starting out with ballet is energising

I discovered the school and Miss Johanna while online looking for a suitable online ballet class for boys. As lockdown had just begun (March 2020) it was important for my son, who is 8 to continue his development as much as possible under the circumstances.
During the 15 months he has attended both group and one to one classes with Miss Johanna his progress has been incredible. Both my son and I are extremely impressed with our experience with these classes and he has been able to now join a face to face class, nearer to where we live at a higher grade thanks to Miss Johanna.
She is extremely

Love the ballet classes so much. Ballet brought into my home by such a talented lady. Warm up and exercises lead up to learning a specially adapted ballet dance from any of the famous classical ballets. There is a social aspect too with an occasional virtual coffee morning. Well worth joining.

Those of us who are fortunate to be part of the school as Silver Swans enjoy a delightful, rewarding experience with excellent teaching. Before our classes became via zoom, because of restrictions, Johanna always went the extra mile to ensure and enhancement our experience. She has worked tirelessly to care for us, including organising a guest speaker; arranging a meeting with a class in Australia and giving us lots of information about events, screening etc while class has been in lockdown. She and the school have really helped to ensure both our physical and mental health, plus lots of fun and
