If a business's computer systems already knows a date, why type it in again? If a price needs to be calculated the computer has advantages over a human clerk of better speed, fewer errors and, always looking for competitive advantage, potential for more sophisticated pricing policies. Business productivity is not optimised by doggedly computerising existing procedures.
Computers core ability is numerical calculation. Whilst in the business world we are often exploiting secondary abilities such as ability to remember, display, search and communicate there is immense commercial opportunity in getting computers to do more of what they are best at - calculating. Other examples, in cases to a considerable level of sophistication, include modelling mobile phone usage and modelling insurance risk.
Make a purchase using the internet and your e-mail in-box will increment almost instantly. Buy via E-bay and that increment may well be 4 e-mails. A major insurance company has been know to send cheques with an accompanying letter stating just "Here is a cheque in settlement of your claim". Not even a claim or policy reference number.
Every IT consultant enthuses about the goldmine of information hidden in their databases, if only they could find and use it. Productive Techology believe that to be useful information has to be directly accessible by decision makers. We aim to supply systems that deliver the information required directly not via secondary calculations in Excel spreadsheets, as all too often happens.
Businesses will have a number of computer applications supporting their businesses some of which will probably interact with each other. Sometimes the combined set is not delivering as management would like and it is difficult to understand what the issue is. Maybe an enhancement is under consideration and an independent appraisal would be appropriate.
