The Club was started in 1956 by a mixture of players from rugby playing schools and those who had never played before to form Shirley Wanderers RFC. After seven years as a wandering side, it opened its clubhouse on the present site in 1963 leasing three pitches from the City of London Corporation. Despite a serious fire in 1974 the clubhouse, gym and training facilities have steadily improved.
This is due to the support of players and members, to the extent that Croydon boasts one of the most spacious and atmospheric amateur rugby club facilities in the Kent/Surrey area. In 2003 members of Shirley Wanderers RFC welcomed Old Croydonians RFC to join them to form the present Croydon RFC. Old Croydonians (formed in 1924) survived the War Years raising a team to play Selhurst Grammar School in the 1943-44 season.

Services
Due to various sports groups using the hall during the week and on Sundays, we are only able to offer bookings for Saturday's. We are one of the few venues in Croydon that will allow bookings for 18th to 21st's. However, for us to be able to continue offering this we must have door security present on the night.
Croydon RFC Tinies focuses on children aged under 6; organising weekly sessions to introduce them to rugby skills. Sessions will include activities to develop their motor skills, competitiveness and their decision making skills in a safe environment. Our Rugby Tinies has been inspired by the England Rugby Football Union training programmes and by UK Department of Education Framework for early years foundation stage.
Full playing membership is available and we are currently looking for more players of all ages and abilities for our teams. Membership benefits include but are not limited to money off at the bar, discounted hall hire and use of the gym as well as covering training and match fees where applicable. Get in touch with us at croydonrfc@gmail.com to come down and give a session or two a try.
