Formed in 1932 as Central Garage with Grand-father Edgar Kershaw as proprietor, the company has remained a familiy business to this day. Edgar passed the garage on to Frederick Kershaw who ran it with his sister Mary until the late eighties. On his retirement, the business, now a Limited company was run by Norman Kershaw who was joined by his brother in 1989.
Andrew takes on the largest strip downs, Discovery body-offs being one of his regular large jobs. He is married to Maria and they have a wizard footballing daughter, Connie. Ian served his apprenticeship at Honda, and since joining has become an MOT tester and started on the BDT at Bosch. Ian has also recently been married!
We service all makes of car and repair all vehicles to current up to date manufacturer schedules. At Central Garage our friendly, well trained staff can assist you with all of your vehicle needs, from leaks and squeeks to more complex vehicle problems. We have a dedicated accident repair centre, MOT service bays, valeting services and much more.
During the MOT, important parts on your vehicle will be checked to make sure they meet the legal standards. You can watch the test from our viewing area (but you're not allowed to interrupt the MOT tester). As well as testing vehicles, we are also able to carry out any vehicle repairs should you have failed the MOT.

The old Central Garage was located in Conduit Street, now a McDonalds. After playing her part producing munitions during WW2, Mary joins Central Garage to help her younger brother (Fred) run the business.

I called into the garage in the morning having not called ahead due to my engine jittering when accelerating. After 2-3 hours they called to update me on an issue they had fixed but they had now come across some spark plug issues. They advised of how much longer they would need and an expected overall cost of all the repairs. An hour later I received a call that all the repairs had been completed, the total cost and that my car was waiting to be cleaned free of charge. I went an hour later and picked it up, paid and found that my car had been cleaned on the inside as well as out! Superb service

I called in the morning & explained my issues and asked if they could squeeze me in, the same day. They were very accommodating.
I went on a test run with the mechanic to highlight the issues and left my car with them.
They called back with the diagnosis and price after keeping me informed throughout the day of there thoughts to the issue and when they knew for sure, it was really appreciated.

Great service from start to finish, the receptionist was polite and kept me informed what had been done and what still needed to be done , the guys that picked up my car were polite and acted in a professional manner. the very fact they pick up your car, repair and bring it back is a exceptional service. I would highly recommend this garage as it ticks all the boxes, and is competitive priced 10/10 well impressed.
