Our Whitby jet workshop is housed in a C17th dwelling on Whitby's historic Eastside, Directions to our shop are on this link. The Ebor Jet works is a contradiction of terms, on one hand a rarity in the C21st jewellery marketplace, being a true cottage industry but don't be fooled however by our ancient exterior, The Ebor Jetworks is also home to some of the most advanced gemmological research of our times!
Our historic Whitby Jet shop really is our pride and joy. Housed in a stunning characterful C17th building in the very heart of Whitby's traditional Jet working district, we are able to continue the long and proud tradition of Whitby Jet working right here on the Yorkshire Coast. If visiting us in person then you will more than likely have the unique experience of buying directly from the person that actually made your jewellery.
Jet information available online is often confusing and more often than not, is completely incorrect. Whitby jet is actually fossilised driftwood from the Toarcian Period of the Lower Jurassic. The rocks containing the Whitby jet began to be deposited 183 million years ago. This was a period of extreme climate change and the resulting conditions led to perfect conditions for the jetonisation of wood.
Whitby Jet is extremely light in weight so a jet pendant is really comfortable to wear. Our certified genuine Whitby Jet is hand-selected by Sarah and is cut, shaped and polished before being set in either 9ct Gold or Sterling Silver settings. Each of our pendants is supplied complete with a 16,18 or 20 sterling silver chain.
Whitby Jet Bracelets made using only the finest gem quality Whitby Jet. Designed and set in such way that the deep black intense lustre of the Whitby Jet contrasts perfectly with the clean lines of the sterling silver surround to give a look of pure class.
Our collection has been designed to include bracelets which can either be an eye-catching stand alone piece or, in some cases, also form part of a co-ordinated set of jewellery with matching earrings or pendant. We have designs made up of the the classic shaped links, round and oval, as well as more contemporary styles such as teardrop or marquise.

This is a great shop for jet jewellery. We looked in lots of shops in whitby looking for somebody who could altar a piece to hold some ashes. As soon as we got in we knew we had the right place, as they were actively working on pieces in the shop. Every other shop was more of a showroom, with nobody giving us any confidence they could work on or altar a piece for us. Here, they showed us lots of pieces and explained how and where they could put some ashes. Seeing and hearing them work on pieces meant we knew they were a jewellery maker, not just a seller. They worked with us over phone and email

Amongst all the jet shops in Whitby, this one stands out. I saw a ring I liked but it was too small..no problem ! They made one to fit while I went for a mooch around the town and had the obligatory fish and chips. I returned to the shop to find they'd made the ring of my dreams. Thank you guys...I'm one very happy customer !

We got our engagement rings here last year, which we've had so many comments on because they are just so unique. They were absolutely wonderful helping us fit bands, and find just the right Jet pieces to go in them. We went back this weekend as my fiancé damaged his at work, and they were wonderful re-setting it and getting it shined up and back to us within the day! Just a lovely little shop overall, and lovely people. We'll be back again for sure.

We visited Ebor looking for a little piece of Jet as a gift for a little boy who loves stones and fossils. The gentleman in the shop took our piece of jet and gave it a spruce up and polish and provided a little gift bag and pamphlet to explain the history of jet. He was so helpful, attentive and wanted to make the gift that little bit more special with no extra charge. He was an absolute star. Thank you so much

Awesome little shop, crammed full of lovely jewellery. My wife wanted a ring and the ones they had on display were all the wrong size in the style she wanted. 5 minutes of hunting in their drawers and they had a blank ring of the correct size but no Jet was set in it. They crafted a piece specially for us right there and then (well we went for a cup of tea next door) an hour later and it was ready. Lovely guys in the shop explained all about the process to our boys too. Well worth a visit to see them in action and feel some raw Jet too.

Tiny shop on the most beautiful street in Whitby.
Tiny, but crammed full of jet, jewelry and other little nuggets of curiosity. The couple that own and run Ebor are not just staff selling their wares... They are extremely knowledgeable in geology. You can find out an awful lot that will make your purchase mean so much more.
