Monk Fryston Hall
Set amongst 30 acres of manicured lawns and flower-carpeted woodland waterways and romantic bridges, Monk Fryston Hall provides a unique venue for leisure, weddings, celebrations and business. The historic Hall dates back to the 13th century and was sympathetically renovated to a hotel in the 1950's and retains much of its original character and features.

Located in the Vale of York, the hotel is only a short drive from the A1M and M62 motorways making it easily accessible from York, Leeds or further afield.
Services
The oldest portion of Monk Fryston Hall Hotel dates back to the 12th century when land was bequeathed as a deer park to 11th century monks by the Bishop of York. The original building contained vaulted ceilings, a wealth of stonework and inglenook fireplaces.

As the centuries passed Monk Fryston came into the ownership of the Hemsworth family, whose many developments included the addition of a grand ballroom, studio and billiard room designed by the renowned architect, Sir Ernest George.
Monk Fryston Hall is a picturesque country house hotel situated in the small village of Monk Fryston within the Vale of York. Dating back to the 12th Century, when land was given to Benedictine monks by the Bishop of York, the hall and its grounds evoke a colourful history. A refurbishment in the 1950s transformed the property into a luxury hotel that offers guests tranquillity, charm and tradition whilst maintaining high standards of service.
This stately, picturesque Monk Fryston Hall, is covered in wisteria and rambling roses, and has perhaps one of the most enviable settings - 30 acres of ornate gardens, lakes romantic and mature parkland with most of the 29 bedrooms enjoying garden views. You can enjoy a gentle game of croquet in the apple orchard, jog around the lakes and woodland or take a romantic stroll through the gardens.
Monk Fryston Hall Hotel offers twenty-nine quiet, relaxing en-suite bedrooms, all individually designed to the highest standard and many with wonderful views over our ornate gardens. In keeping with the period, some rooms have 4-poster and canopied beds promising elegance and style along with modern comforts, including free Wi-Fi and satellite TV.

We booked this hotel however when we got there it was closed. We met a lady who runs it and she said its been closed for a year. She said the website shouldn't be taking bookings but obviously they are. Luckily they didn't take any money. Do NOT book this hotel

I’m not generally given to leaving negative reviews but I’m afraid I have to do it this time.
My wife and I had been touring East Yorkshire on our bicycles and one of the essentials on trips like this is a comfortable room, hot water and a reasonable restaurant. I have carefully checked out Monk Fryston Hall and with its three star AA rating and well reviewed restaurant I thought it was a safe bet. I booked via my usual app, Booking.com as it is normally reliable.
After 70km into a headwind, we arrived at the Hall. It is a grand, imposing building but somewhat run down. On entering, I noticed

A hidden gem well worth a visit inexpensive and great menu. Rooms interesting decor and comfortable. Grounds worth a visit. It is undergoing some redecoration but tepid water could do with sorting. We'll be back!

Helpful staff however this lovely building needs updating. Very authentic but tired looking. Check your shower works when you book in. Meals were nicely presented and OK. Grounds are beautiful and extensive.

Lovely setting, & very impressive as I pulled in to the entrance.
Bar area was great, open log fire, wood paneled walls.
Food was excellent, both in the Restaurant first night I stayed & Bar food second night. Breakfast was super.
My only gripe was that the bedrooms were cold, I was given a portable radiator, but that wasn't working, still apart from that clean & comfortable.
The staff were very helpful & attentive, it was a pleasant stay.
