JBS Dance, formerly the Jean Butterworth School of Dancing offers classes for boys and girls from 3 years old to professional levels. Classes can be taken in Classical Ballet, Character, Pointe Work, Pas De Deux, Modern, Jazz, Tap, Limbering, Acrobatics and Pilates Body Conditioning. Adult classes are also available.
Nursery classes exploring music & movement for the very young are followed by syllabus classes leading to graded examinations for 5 year olds upwards and vocational examinations for seniors. All classes are taken by qualified teachers in our own studios in Glebe Road, Tarring, Worthing, West Sussex, which are fitted with Harlequin sprung dance floors, ballet barres and full length mirrors.

JBS Dance, formerly the Jean Butterworth School of Dancing was established over 75 years ago by Jean Butterworth (FRAD), who was an inspirational teacher, talented choreographer and examiner for the Royal Academy of Dance.
During her lifetime she taught and inspired many young pupils to enter a career in dance, a tradition which has been carried on by Miss Jenkins with a high percentage of past students at full time vocational colleges or working professionally in theatre.Instruction is at various levels from hobby to examination standard.

Our JBS Scholars Programme is a 6 month intensive study course for pre-professional students wishing to graduate to professional dance colleges at 16 or 18 yrs to pursue a career in ballet or performing arts.
By providing a supplementary afternoon a week, it is the first step towards introducing these young students to a professional level of study with classes in Ballet, Pas De Deux, Repertoire, Contemporary, Musical Theatre, Acrobatics and Pilates/Body conditioning.Limbering classes are also free to all JBS Scholars.

The Main Studio is situated in the heart of Tarring Village, West Sussex, entrance off Glebe Road, adjacent to The Old Palace, a 14th Century church hall. We have our own private car park for 15 cars and all the studios are equipped with full length mirrors, ballet barres and Harlequin sprung dance floors.
Pas de Chat, our onsite ballet shop is open to the general public from 10:00 - 12:00 every Saturday during term time. We supply all the dance school uniform for JBS Dance including dance bags, school fleeces and hair accesories. Any additional items for festivals or rehearsals can be requested on special order.
