Services
We started manufacturing picture frames and framing in 1990 at Ulleskelf, a small village just outside Tadcaster, North Yorkshire. We moved to our present premises in Tadcaster in 1997. We also have a shop next door to our workshop in Tadcaster, we have a selection of ready made frames, we stock a large selection of mouldings and mount colours.
We stock a wide range of frames in standard sizes in our shop available straight away and thousands of mounts. You're welcome to bring in art work or items you want framing and we'll be happy to go through options, frame types and mount colours with you in person and quote. Leave them with us and we'll frame them for you including taping and stringing the frame.
At Skelf Frames we're committed to improving our processes and tooling to help the environment. As picture frames contain glass and shipping glass is incredibly difficult due to how couriers treat and handle packages, we have to ensure we package them well enough to withstand the journey so that they arrive safely with our customers.
The most important factor of measuring is to ensure you are measuring the glass size, and not the physical frame size. Different frame mouldings result in different physical sizes, this affects how big the frame will look on your wall, but does not change what size art work can fit. As you can see above, both frames are made to fit a 5" x 4" photo, but the one on the left has a much smaller frame moulding.
If you're trying to buy a frame for your photos or artwork then measuring it correctly is important. Sometimes it's possible to buy a standard size frame from our range and your photo will go straight in as is. The other option is to put a mount around the artwork and fit into a standard size frame.

I went along to skelf frame’s to have a football top framed for my husband for Xmas to be met with the most unwelcoming staff members I’ve ever met , his first words were ‘I hate doing football tops ‘ I decided not to respond thinking he was saying this in fun although it didn’t come across this way .I was with a friend who looked at me with disbelief , I asked what the costing would me and he answered immediately £150 I responded by telling him I’d been quoted by that business approx £120 he shook his head and shrugged whilst looking at the shirt , I therefore said I’d take it
