Because they naturally go together. We associate them with traditional buildings, with the way crafts of the past blended with knowledge of the environment using natural resources. I take pride in sharing the love and affinity I have for these naturally based resources. However, LIME and STOVES do not have to be always together.
Each has a place in its own right. They are both kind to the environment. Burning wood is carbon neutral; it will only release the same amount of carbon dioxide that it took out of the atmosphere whilst growing as a tree.

Modern cement when cured is very hard so when cement based mortar is used to repoint a building it will cause - through the cycle of wetting, freezing and drying over the years - the stone to slowly erode at the repointed junction; leaving the cement proud. At times it can even cause the face of the stone to crack away.
The initial outlay for a stove may seem expensive but this can quickly be recovered. Wood is still relatively cheap compared with other alternatives and an added advantage of wood burning stoves over open fires is that they are 70/80% efficient compared with 20/25% of an open fire. This is because an open fire has to suck a lot of your warm air out of the room which is then replaced by cold air from outside.
Anybody on the Domestic or Commercial RHI Scheme knows that they have to source their fuel from someone who is on the Biomass Suppliers List. We are on that list. Our wood is sourced locally and seasoned in the open air. After one year it is cut and put under cover. The final moisture content is 20% or less.
Unlike cement floors, limecrete won't force dampness into the walls but manages the moisture. When combined with foam glass insulation like Geocell, it provides a breathable, insulated floor system. Limecrete flooring is ideally suited to older properties. An added benefit is that limecrete flooring may be used with underfloor heating if required.
